About Gina

My career as a dance practitioner and clinical exercise physiologist collectively spans more than 40 years. My professional full-time dance training was primarily in the Vaganova and Bolshoi methods. It was when my deep interest in movement technique began. 1975 - 1977 - Full-time ballet, Ballet Victoria, which became VCA in 1977 1978 - Dance Teacher training VCA the year it officially became VCA 1978 - Designed concept for new children's dance syllabus (still being taught today) 1979 - 1989 - Professional music theatre performer (played Columbia in Rocky Horror!) 1990 - 1993 - Director of Theatre Ballet School/Kyneton (then had 2 children) 1996 - 2002 - Created Boys Ballet Program (many were accepted into Aus Ballet School) 2001 - 2007 - Uni degree then Post Grad in Exercise Rehabilitation VU 2004 - 2015 - Lecturer at Victoria University 2002 - 2003 - Spent 18 months training with the injury prevention specialist at ABS 2004 - 2005 - Worked with elite track & field athletes at VIS 2005 - Presented my movement technique work at Aus Innovations Fest held at VIS 2010 - 2015 Lecturer in Clinical Exercise Studies with tenure at VU 2012-2015 - Discipline Champion Interprofessional Ed. representing Exercise Science VU 2015 - Current - Private Practice as a Dance Practitioner/Clinical Exercise Physiologist 2016 & 2018 - Dance for Parkinson's & Advanced Dance for PD instructor training 2023 - Current - Started Ballet Barre Classes for seniors (50-90s, but many aged 70-80 years) at a local medical clinic where I work face-to-face seeing clients referred by their GPs. **These face-to-face classes at the medical clinic (currently all booked out) have been a huge success because of the focus on technique, creating significant gains in balance, control, and physical self-confidence for participants. **As well as face-to-face classes, I have created some videos of ballet barre classes. I did this especially for the class participants at the clinic, so that they could come to the clinic and still practice together when I went on holiday. They loved these classes because they said it was like having me still there in the classroom with them. So I decided I should make more of these classes and offer them online on my own separate website, Ballet Barre Rehab. What led me to become a clinical exercise physiologist ... In 2001, I worked with an injured dancer. Her back injury had healed but she remained in pain and had been mostly out of action for 18 months. I retrained her fundamental ballet barre technique. After 6 weeks of daily intensive sessions together, she was pain-free and returned to her classes at the Ballet School. 18 months later she graduated, then was selected, and accepted into the Australian Ballet Company. I have been working as an accredited clinical exercise physiologist/dance practitioner specializing in movement technique, since 2007. I love my work.
