About Elisabeth
I hated math as a kid and used to cry whenever I had math homework--so I know how it feels to struggle and feel frustrated and confused. In college, however, I had really inspiring math professors who helped me find the joy in math and take delight in solving math puzzles and conquering difficult problems. I ended up changing my major to mathematics because of my amazing professors and graduating summa cum laude with a math degree! My goal now is to help empower other struggling math students to gain competence and confidence in understanding and solving math problems.

The only way to learn math is by DOING it. As a tutor, my ultimate goal is to help students acquire the skills necessary to do math without my help.
In a typical session, a student approaches me with a problem that he or she found confusing. I guide the student to explore the problem through Socratic questioning and find an answer. Then we evaluate the answer to see if it makes sense. Finally, I provide the student with similar problems. While the student is solving these problems, I am available to help if needed, but the student ideally gains independence and confidence, and also solidifies their understanding of the concept through practice.
I typically tutor students in middle school, high school, and introductory college courses
