About Yoshi
I am a dynamic language educator with a passion for fostering communication across borders. With over three decades of residency in Melbourne and a rich background in linguistics and language education, I bring a wealth of experience to my superprof classroom.
Originally from Japan, my journey has taken me from the bustling streets of Tokyo to the vibrant multicultural landscape of Melbourne. Fluent in Japanese, English, and proficient in Indonesian, I embody the essence of cross-cultural communication.
My teaching journey began with a linguistics degree, which laid the foundation for my career in language education. Over the years, I have honed my craft through teaching positions at prestigious institutions such as The University of Melbourne, RMIT University, and the Centre for Adult Education. My diverse clientele ranges from Australian high school and university students to professionals in various fields, including diplomats, medical practitioners, legal experts, and performers.
My expertise extends beyond the classroom. As a published author and editor, I have contributed to the realm of Japanese language learning with works like the 'Japanese Phrasebook' by Lonely Planet and the 'Obento Snack Pack' series published by Cengage. My commitment to creating effective learning materials ensures that students receive the highest quality instruction tailored to their needs.
Beyond language instruction, my versatility shines through my tenure as a tourism lecturer at the undergraduate level in Melbourne. Even during the challenging times of the COVID-19 lockdown, I seamlessly transitioned to online teaching, delivering engaging lectures through Zoom and other digital platforms.
Join me on a transformative language learning journey that transcends borders and enriches lives. Whether you're embarking on a new linguistic adventure or seeking to enhance your intercultural skills, I am here to guide you every step of the way.

I believe that language learning is all about practice. You need to use it as much as possible in various situations to master it. It's akin to mastering riding a bicycle or swimming. Just like with those skills, having an experienced coach can help you achieve your goals as smoothly and quickly as possible.
I hold two bachelor's degrees, one in linguistics, as well as two master's degrees. As a linguist, I've learned several rare languages without the aid of teachers or textbooks. I understand how important to practice but also how difficult and time-consuming it can be to learn languages without any support from coaches.
For many years, I've taught Japanese and developed curricula for university students and adults. Additionally, I've tutored VCE high school students, many of whom achieved an average raw study score of more than 45 points (scaled score of 50).
My teaching expertise ranges from absolute beginners who are planning to travel to Japan to advanced business-level learners who are already working in Japanese environments.
