About Sarah
I am an experienced and enthusiastic Science teacher with over 14 years in the classroom, including serving as Head of Science. I hold a degree in Applied Chemistry and have supported hundreds of students through KS3 and GCSE Science, helping them build confidence and achieve results they are proud of.
While I take academic progress seriously, I believe learning should be engaging and enjoyable. Science is full of fascinating ideas and real world connections, and I bring energy and positivity to every lesson. My sessions are structured and purposeful, but also interactive and lively, so students stay motivated and involved.
As a former Head of Department, I understand the curriculum in depth and know exactly what examiners are looking for. I teach students not only what to learn, but how to apply their knowledge effectively in exams. I provide clear explanations, practical strategies and regular feedback so progress is always visible.
I am experienced in supporting students of all abilities, including those with SEND and lower prior attainment. I pride myself on creating a calm and supportive space where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks and building resilience.
Parents can expect professionalism, reliability and clear communication. Students can expect encouragement, challenge and lessons that make science feel achievable.
My aim is for every student to leave each session thinking, “I understand this now,” and feeling more confident about their next lesson or exam.

My tutoring approach is energetic, engaging and highly supportive. I believe students learn best when they feel comfortable, motivated and confident, so my lessons are fun, dynamic and tailored to the individual.
With over 14 years of teaching experience and previous experience as a Head of Science, I have a deep understanding of the KS3 and GCSE Science curriculum. I also hold a degree in Applied Chemistry, giving me strong subject knowledge across Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
I specialise in making science accessible. I break down complex ideas into simple, clear steps and use real world examples, visuals and analogies to bring topics to life. I am particularly experienced in supporting lower ability students and those with SEND, adapting my teaching style to suit different learning needs and building confidence gradually.
A typical lesson lasts 60 minutes and includes:
• Quick retrieval practice to strengthen memory
• Clear, structured explanation of key concepts
• Guided practice with supportive questioning
• Exam style questions for GCSE with modelling of high mark answers
• Immediate feedback and clear next steps
For KS3 students, I focus on building strong foundations and confidence. For GCSE students, I combine subject knowledge with strong exam technique, teaching students how to interpret command words, structure extended answers and maximise marks.
My lessons are suitable for:
• KS3 students in Years 7 to 9
• GCSE Science students at Foundation and Higher tier
• Students needing additional support, including SEND
• Students who lack confidence or need structured guidance
• Students aiming to improve grades and exam performance
Above all, I create a positive and encouraging environment where students feel safe to ask questions and take risks in their learning, while still being challenged to reach their full potential.
Recommendations
Recommendations come from relatives, friends and acquaintances of the teacher
Sarah is a wonderful teacher and she gives clear and logical explanations, and has a knack for getting students engaged. I shared classes with her for many years and she can vouch that she is a thorough and methodical teacher of science, but adds fun even to the potentially drier areas of the curriculum.
Sarah is great with learners of all abilities; she can really engage them and get them to where they need to be. She makes learning fun and accessible and is skilled at keeping young peoples’ attention.
