About Joe
Hello! My name is Joe.
I have over eleven years of experience in musical studies and can provide tuition for trumpet/cornet, piano, music comprehension and music theory. At university, I am a first-study pianist taught by the RNCM Sally Ann Macleod. Having gained my ABRSM Grade 8 standard in piano and pursuing grade 8 in both the trumpet and cornet, I am very familiar with the structure of the ABRSM exam board and expectations within the exam hall. I also have ABRSM Grade 5 standard in music theory. During my off-time, I play the cornet in a third-section and first-section brass band and the trumpet in a university-run wind band.
I aim to have my students comfortable openly expressing themselves whilst playing the trumpet or piano. When starting (as I once recall) it can be challenging! Therefore, the sooner I can resolve any issues with embouchure or finger techniques at the beginning, the easier it will be in the future. In each lesson, my pupil and I will work on any repertoire they are currently playing then break it down into smaller phrases to capture any small details that complete the piece. If they have any foundation issues like; finger positioning or posture, this will be rectified first as the improvement will compound into other playing areas.

I can teach pupils ranging from beginner to advanced level. I always try to gear the lessons to be fun and engaging, whether for exam prep or enjoyment. As a university student, I have flexible availability for providing tuition.

Whilst I do not have much experience tutoring online I am familiar with teaching the younger players in my current and past bands, supporting them with their parts and giving them further confidence. Additionally so, over the past 6 months, I have done private tuition with pupils in my local community.
