I am passionate about English Literature and Language and my biggest aim is to help you to really enjoy your studies. I take a student-centred approach to my lessons and will work with you to understand your strengths and improve on your weaknesses.
If you are studying a specific text, I will help you to discover for yourself how to effectively analyse the language, form and themes, and work with you to structure effective essays and exam answers.
I am a qualified EFL tutor so can help you to understand English grammar and work on your writing skills, particularly for students with English as an additional language.
I'm experienced tutoring years 5 - 13. I focus on the below areas for each age group:
Year 5 and 6:
Building comprehension skills and understanding how to identify and use specific language techniques in preparation for secondary school.
Practising creative and technical writing skills, developing advanced vocabulary and understanding how to structure ideas.
Year 7-9:
Developing analytical skills in preparation for GCSE work. We will look at a variety of texts including prose, poetry and non-fiction, and discuss how language and form are used for effect.
Beginning to practise structuring and writing a GCSE-style answer.
Year 10-11:
Preparing for exams by deepening understanding of set texts and learning techniques to revise.
Practising techniques to approach unseen poetry and English Language questions.
Building confidence in answering exam questions that meet all assessment objectives.
Year 12-13:
Developing advanced analysis skills and building towards developing a more personal response to texts.
Gaining confidence in using context and literary criticism.
Understanding how to structure longer essays.
