About Miles
I'm lucky to have led a rich life. I've had many different jobs including: liquid nitrogen ice cream maker, farm labourer, homeless outreach worker, musician, and hot air balloon ground crewman. My great dream in life is to write stories for a living while sailing around the world. Although I’m new to tutoring, as a mature student who went to University later on in life I have a familiarity with recent University application processes and the many of the texts that are studied at A-level. Furthermore, while working as a homeless outreach worker I worked with young people who were experiencing a range of challenges. It was a great privilege to share that season of life with them. My life experiences also enrich the way that I coach creative writing. I'm not an armchair academic – I’m someone who has worked a range of jobs, has met many incredible people, has weathered some of life's storms, and has chosen to write a better story.

Everyone has a story. I believe that a true passion for literature can be nurtured in anyone. My first goal is to help a young person recognise that storytelling is imbued with incredible power - that it helps us make sense of ourselves, whether we are looking at the span of civilisation or our own little lives. From here, the nuts and bolts of each 1hr-90 minute lesson will contain a balance of practical knowledge tailored to the requirements of their syllabus, along with the rich discussion that encourages a young mind to truly grow. As well as getting the best possible results, I aim to support young people to develop intellectual and creative confidence. This is because literature is a wonderful tool that can help us see things clearly: who we want to become, what we want to nurture, and how to identify all that is true and good, and beautiful in this world. Although I focus on GCSE and A-level tutoring I also help with Personal Statements for University and coach creative writers of all ages.
