About Lola
I am Lola. I am an actor and teacher who specialises in English literature - with a particular love for Shakespeare. As such, I have a great knowledge of drama and theatre history, poetry and the Classics. I love to engage in English Literature in a way that is fun, relevant, inspiring, and open to all the curious things that words have to offer us.
I am an experienced drama teacher, having worked in a school in the South West. In this work, I was an inspiring (if a little eccentric) presence to my students, offering them classes which were fun and creative, as well as informative. As an actor myself, I am not interested in boring lessons - I think lessons should be mini-theatre!
My learning is multi-disciplinary, looking to expand your knowledge beyond the usual curriculum. I will help you get the grades and impress your teacher, but also inspire your curiosity. If you love films, let's use them to learn. If you like music, let's use that. If you're interested in sport, how can that help us? The learning starts with you.

Teaches literature, poetry, and drama with a genuine zeal and love for the subject.
Expect multi-disciplinary, ambitious learning - reaching beyond the curriculum, whilst alert to the needs of the exam or course. I like to give my students a holistic view of a subject, relating it to areas of their wider interest, whilst also engaging in the nitty-gritty of analysis and close textual focus.
I graduated from the University of Oxford with a First Class degree in English Language and Literature. As such, I have a wide knowledge of the canon of English literature, with a particular expertise in drama: from Shakespeare to Oscar Wilde. Since then, I have worked as a drama teacher at a prep school in the South West, working with primary and secondary age students, where I tutored in poetry, theatre, and literature. I have also gained a postgraduate MA degree in Acting from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
Lessons run from 60 - 90 minutes. Open to GCSE and A level students of all abilities. Will also teach primary and secondary level English. Am also happy to teach undergraduate English Literature students. Happy to work on specific texts / challenges, as well as giving overviews. Also knowledgeable in the field of good essay-writing practices and techniques (including grammar, structure, spelling).
