About Jay

I am a technical professional at the intersection of engineering and finance. With a Master’s in Financial Economics from Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor’s in Computer Engineering from Virginia Tech, I bring a rare combination of quantitative depth and practical programming expertise to our sessions.

Beyond my academic credentials, I spent over three years as a Product Engineer at Qualcomm, where I applied rigorous problem-solving to real-world technology challenges.

I look forward to discussing your objectives and building a plan for your success.

About My Teaching Approach
My teaching philosophy is built on Applied Intuition. I believe that mastering a class is useless if you don't understand the underlying logic. I prefer to use multiple analogies to relate complicated theories to a student's daily life. For example, when explaining the difference between monetary and fiscal policy, I might compare them to a household: the father acts as the monetary authority, managing the supply of funds, while the mother acts as the fiscal authority, deciding how those funds are spent and allocated.

A Typical Lesson Plan
I structure my 60-minute sessions to ensure high retention:

Students have the flexibility to ask for anything to be explained during the class.

Otherwise, the following is my class layout:

The Recap (5 mins): Reviewing previous concepts and troubleshooting any "stuck" code.

The Objective (5 mins): Defining the specific financial or technical problem we are solving today.

The Deep Dive (35 mins): Interactive build-out. We might write a Python script for IV selection or analyze a specific case study on monetary policy.

The Stress Test (10 mins): I challenge you to apply the lesson to a different scenario (e.g., "How would this risk model change if inflation spiked?").

The Roadmap (5 mins): Defining the next steps and providing "practice scripts" for the week.

What Sets Me Apart
I have had 3+ years of industry experience. While many tutors can explain a formula, I can explain how that formula influences a bank’s capital requirements or how geopolitical shifts in the energy market—from nuclear supply chains to oil refining margins—impact financial modeling.

Who These Lessons Are For
My sessions are designed for everyone: Middle schoolers, High schoolers, and college students.

The classes I teach are Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Financial Management, Mathematics, and other science subjects.

If you have a subject that was not listed above, send me a text. I will let you know if I can teach the class.

Let's build your expertise together.
