I believe finance, investing and commerce are wholly practical subjects. A true understanding of the finance world requires every theoretical concept to be looped into how it is being implemented/challenged by the business community. In so far as investing and economics are concerned, there is an entire field of study called Behavioral Finance which goes into how important it is to understand these topics with a real-world perspective, and not just as theory to be read out of a book.
