About
My name is Hannah, I'm a fourth year German and Politics student at university. From early secondary school through to university I've had a passion for humanities and language subjects, studying multiple foreign languages and social subjects, and therefore have a clear grasp on what these subjects look for at exam level. I have a deep understanding of different essay styles, critical reading skills and literature analysis, so I'm in a good place to answer any questions about English you may have, from Shakespeare to Jane Austen. My experience with learning foreign languages also means I can help decode the confusing little things in English grammar that we never think about as native speakers, to bring your essays to the next level.
Analysis can be difficult, so whether you need me to get into the details of choosing and analysing quotes, or just need to discuss the text to get your head around it, I can help. You know how you learn best, and we can work together to make sure you get the most out of our sessions, and the most out of English!
I'd love to share my passion for English with you, to not only help you understand the course and feel more confident in assessment, but also to genuinely enjoy it and improve skills that will be useful throughout your life, whichever route you choose.

My sessions are usually 1 hour in length, catering to 11+, GCSE, National 5, and Higher students looking to boost their confidence in English!
At first meeting, I usually start by discussing how you feel you learn best, and what you feel you struggle with, so that I can structure lessons to capitalise on your strengths and target your weaknesses.
In the first few lessons I take a skills based approach, using exercises and problems to help you develop your language and critical reading skills and to build a strong foundation for further learning.
Depending on your needs, we can then move on to past paper questions, working through the questions together to build your confidence and understanding of the skills you've been working on previously.
By the end of our time working together, I hope that my students will not only feel confident in answering exam style questions independently, but will also feel that they have a mastery of English language skills which are essential to their learning or working careers.
I am thrilled to say that many of my students have received grammar school offers and have climbed grade bands after working with me.
