About Emily
I am friendly, approachable, and passionate about helping students succeed in Mathematics and Sciences. I studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at A-level and am currently studying MMath at the University of York. Outside of tutoring, I enjoy rowing and being creative, which helps me bring energy and fresh ideas into lessons. I have gained experience in mentoring and coaching students through sports, which has strengthened my ability to engage, motivate, and guide learners. In lessons, I like to start by gauging what the student already understands, then work through the topic with examples, and finish by trying similar questions independently. This helps students see their progress and feel more confident in applying what they’ve learned. I want every student to feel comfortable asking questions and sharing where they’re stuck, as understanding why a problem is tricky is the first step to solving it. Lessons are tailored to each student’s needs, making learning clear, manageable, and engaging. I help breaking down tricky problems and showing that these subjects don’t have to be intimidating. My goal is for students to leave each session feeling more confident, capable, and in control of the subject. I tutor Mathematics up to A-level and GCSE Physics and Chemistry.

I am a second-year MMath student at the University of York with a strong passion for mathematics and science. I studied Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at A-level. It gave me a solid knowledge foundation and first-hand experience with the challenges students face when preparing for exams. I have completed a teaching internship working with full classes, small groups, and one-to-one sessions, and have supported “Maths in the Real World” masterclasses. My tutoring approach focuses on tailoring lessons to each student’s needs. I begin by assessing their understanding, then work through the relevant concepts with examples, and conclude with independent practice to consolidate learning. I encourage students to share any perceived difficulties so we can identify the source of challenges, whether it is understanding the question, gaps in knowledge, or applying concepts incorrectly. At the end of each session, I have a brief discussion to outline what will be covered next, ensuring continuity and clear progress. Lessons are typically 60 minutes and are designed to build confidence, strengthen problem-solving skills, and develop familiarity with key concepts. I tutor mathematics up to A-level (excluding Further Maths) and GCSE physics and chemistry, and I aim to provide a professional, structured, and supportive learning environment.
