About Deena
In my experience, students learn best in a positive atmosphere. I am here to assist my students, help them, and hope to see them grow. I strive for success and within my tutoring, success looks like a student who has learned and is able to use some skills for themself.
My tutoring experience was within my college, and I regularly had to tutor different students for various reason, whether it be under threat of losing athletic scholarships for grades, involvement of a teacher, or just by the student needing help for a better grade. Each and every student who came to me, whether I knew them or not, received a quality tutoring session.
I provide support, encouragement and professionalism within all of my interactions with students. I will never judge the reason that a student needs assistance.
All of my interactions with my students will remain private, along with any files saved. Any and all information will be stored in a off network flash drive, stored in a secure location.
Each and every one of my tutoring sessions will look different, because the reality is that each of my students will be different. I am not here to make every kid fall into a specific box. I will adapt to the student, and their academic needs, and prioritize these changes when working with them.

For my tutoring sessions, I like to encourage students to learn through trial and error, allowing them to build their skills as they learn. This may look like guiding the student through the essay set up process, or doing guided self-editing. My goals are to help students feel more confident in themselves and their writing skills.
A typical lesson plan may look like this:
-Assessment of the writing/English assignment (15-20min)
-Guided essay set up/Guided walkthrough of assignment (10-15min)
-Guided work time, with aid as needed/Brainstorm session (20-30 minutes)
-Guided editing/Double checking work(10-15min)
-Correcting edits or work(10-15min)
-Set "assignment" for the next session (5-10min)
-Repeat at next session
Minimum time: 1 hour
Maximum time: 1 hour 45 minutes
What sets me apart as a tutor is that I always encourage students to build their own skills and am always looking out for students who learn in different ways than their peers. I am prepared for students who struggle to learn material, or who struggle with the teachers' explanation, or who don't know the best way for them to learn. I know that there are many different styles of teaching and many different methods of learning, and I am prepared to utilize them as necessary.
My lessons are for any child or adult in need of English or writing tutoring. I am able to work with any age group as I have experience with children as young as 2 and have tutored all the way up to the collegiate level.
