• When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I have always been passionate in business / accounting field given I have an MBA and Big 4 experience. Also, as my mom is a teacher, since young I have been helping her to provide tuition to students. I decided to pursue a career in the education field full time 5 years ago and that stemmed my interest in teaching further. Now I am a full time tutor and I derive a great sense of fulfillment from helping my students achieve their individual goals!

• Tell us more about the subject you teach and the topics you like to discuss with students.

  I specialise in accounting and business related subjects like the ACCA / ICAEW papers (strategic business leader, audit and assurance, performance management, financial accounting, management accounting, etc). I enjoy relating my commercial experience to the lessons in class as it provides valuable insights to students, allowing them to grasp the concepts effectively.

• Did you have any role models that inspired you?

  I would say my role model is my mom. She is a passionate teacher who is willing to go the extra mile for students and hence her students really adore her.

• What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  Empathy - as all students learn differently. It is important to put ourselves in the students' shoes to be able to understand and solve the difficulty that they face. Also, a sense of accountability would be important. A responsible tutor would be willing to go the extra mile to help their students reach the goal and sometimes that is all that is needed to make a difference for the student.

• What is a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school?

  Always zoom out to review and reflect on the concepts that we have learnt from a bird's eye view perspective. This would be more effective compared to blindly memorising the concepts without understanding them.

• What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  A lot of students misunderstand the subject as a theory paper. As a result, they may blindly regurgitate the business concepts during exams, leading to low marks. To combat this, I always emphasise to my students the importance of application to the case and demonstrate to them repetitively on the various answering techniques to ensure their study efforts do not go down the drain.

• Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, an element of the subject, or something completely different?

  My passion is teaching! When I see my students 'enlightened' after my classes or when they give me feedback on how they love my classes, it makes me feel like all my hard work is worth it.

• What makes you a Superprof?

  I am a Superprof because I have helped hundreds of students pass their exams or achieve their study goals over the years - be it through classes or through the free online content that I create. I wish to x10000000 the number of students that I help for the years to come. :)
