About Cynthia
Hi, I’m Cynthia, a passionate and dedicated maths tutor with over 6 years of experience helping students build confidence and achieve strong results across a wide range of levels—from Year 1 right through to first-year university.
Over the years, I’ve supported young learners as they master foundational skills like times tables and prepare for 11+ and SATs. I’ve guided KS3 students as they begin to tackle algebra and develop problem-solving techniques, and I’ve worked extensively with GCSE and A-Level students, helping hundreds consistently reach top grades, including 7–9 at GCSE and A*–B at A-Level. I also tutor first-year university students, offering support in areas such as calculus, linear algebra, and mathematical proof techniques.
My teaching approach is calm, patient, and highly method-focused. I believe that every student can succeed in maths when concepts are explained clearly and broken down into manageable steps. I take the time to ensure that students don’t just memorise methods, but truly understand the reasoning behind them the “why” as well as the “how.” This deeper understanding helps students apply their knowledge confidently, even when faced with unfamiliar problems.
Through my experience, I’ve learned that confidence plays a huge role in success in maths. Many students struggle not because they lack ability, but because they doubt themselves. My goal is to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and gradually building their skills. By doing so, I help them feel more capable, better prepared for exams, and often even begin to enjoy maths in a way they didn’t before.

I teach maths for students from KS1 up to first-year university, online and in-person. Lessons are 1:1 and fully tailored to your goals, whether that’s building confidence in Year 4, smashing 11+ or SATs, securing a 7-9 at GCSE, nailing A-Level/IB, or getting through first-year modules like Calculus and Linear Algebra.
Every lesson starts with a quick check-in to target gaps, then we tackle topics using clear explanations, visual models, and lots of practice. I use past papers, STEP/MAT prep, and exam technique coaching for older students. For primary, we focus on number sense, times tables, and problem-solving so maths feels less scary and more logical.
You’ll get homework, progress updates, and resources after each session. My style is patient, encouraging, and direct. We work hard but I’ll make sure you actually understand the ‘why’, not just the ‘how’. Book a trial and let’s get your grades moving.
