About Chekeb

Hi! Iโ€™m Chekeb, a UCL Mathematics graduate and experienced GCSE & A-Level Maths tutor.

Iโ€™ve been providing tailored 1-to-1 Maths tuition for over 3 years, both in-person and online, with 800+ hours of teaching experience across Edexcel, AQA, OCR and CAIE exam boards. My focus is on helping students improve grades, confidence and exam technique.

Every student is different, so my lessons are fully tailored โ€” but they all follow the same proven structure.

๐Ÿ. ๐”๐ง๐๐ž๐ซ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐
The priority in every lesson is deep understanding โ€” not memorisation. We focus on topics the student lacks confidence in, address gaps in knowledge, and work through a wide range of exam-style questions to ensure concepts are fully grasped.

๐Ÿ. ๐‚๐จ๐ง๐Ÿ๐ข๐๐ž๐ง๐œ๐ž
Students then attempt questions independently during the lesson (I'll provide hints if needed). This helps identify misunderstandings early (e.g. โ€œWhy doesnโ€™t this method work?โ€) and builds strong foundations. Over time, this develops confidence and sharper problem-solving skills โ€” essential for unfamiliar questions that will appear on their final exams.

๐Ÿ‘. ๐„๐ฑ๐š๐ฆ ๐๐ซ๐ž๐ฉ๐š๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง
Weekly homework is set based on lesson content and tailored to the studentโ€™s level. This reinforces understanding, highlights areas for improvement and builds strong exam technique โ€” so students feel prepared and confident going into their final exams.

If youโ€™re looking for structured, supportive GCSE or A-Level Maths tutor that delivers results, Iโ€™d be more than happy to help.

  • When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

I developed a strong interest in Maths in Year 9, at the beginning of my GCSEs. At the time, many of my friends were in higher sets while I was in Set 3, which covered Foundation Maths. As a naturally competitive person, I didnโ€™t want to fall behind, so in Year 10 I began self-teaching the Foundation syllabus alongside my school lessons.

What intrigued me most about Maths was the problem-solving aspect and the clear sense of progression. I made plenty of mistakes early on and often struggled to understand certain topics, but persistence paid off. By the end of Year 10, I had moved up to Set 2 and began studying Higher Maths in Year 11.

My interest in tutoring began during my first year at university, reinforced during my second year, when friends frequently asked for help with Maths topics they found difficult. Their feedback gave me the confidence to start tutoring by the end of my second year. Although it was nerve-wracking at first, I quickly realised how rewarding it was. Teaching not only helped my students but also strengthened my own understanding, and I continue to learn through the different perspectives my students bring.
  • Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

I teach Maths and Further Maths. I particularly enjoy topics such as Trigonometry, Differentiation, Integration, Probability, Projectile Motion, and Kinematics (SUVAT). These topics are especially rewarding to teach because they are some of the more difficult ones and allow students to see how multiple ideas connect and how Maths can be applied logically and systematically to solve complex problems.
  • Did you have any role models, a teacher who inspired you?

In Year 9, my Maths teacher, Mr Taqvi, played a significant role in motivating me. His lessons were engaging and encouraging, which helped build my confidence. Additionally, seeing my friends in higher sets motivated me to push myself further.

During A-Levels, Mrs Ravi had a lasting impact on me. Her ability to break down complex topics and make everything โ€œclickโ€ was remarkable. The techniques and problem-solving strategies I learned from her continue to influence how I teach my own students today.
  • What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

I believe a good tutor must be patient and adaptable, as every student learns differently. They should be able to identify gaps in a studentโ€™s understanding and address them effectively. Strong engagement and motivation are also essentialโ€”students need to feel supported, confident, and able to see their own progress.
  • Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

One of the most important lessons I learned is that itโ€™s never too late to improve. When I joined Higher Maths in Year 11, I initially scored as low as 1 or 2 marks out of 10 in my test. Although my teacher reassured me, deep down I knew I needed to put in serious effort.

Throughout the year, I committed myself to self-learning the syllabus, revisiting fundamentals, and attempting challenging exam questions. It was very difficult, but by the end of the year, I achieved a Grade 8 (A*). This experience shapes how I tutor todayโ€”I remind students that progress is possible with the right mindset and consistency.
  • What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or are still facing in your subject?

One of the main challenges I faced was learning how to connect different topics together, especially when tackling exam questions that tested multiple concepts at once. Over time, I overcame this with practice and focusing on understanding the main principles rather than memorising methods. This is something I now emphasise strongly in my lessons.
  • Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general, or an element of the subject, or something completely different?

Learning is my greatest passion. I genuinely enjoy revisiting topics, strengthening my understanding, and learning new material to support my students. Teaching allows me to continuously grow while helping others build confidence in their abilities.
  • What makes you a Superprof?

What makes me a Superprof is my ability to relate to students who may lack confidence in Maths, combined with my experience across multiple exam boards. Having been in their position myself, I understand the challenges they face and adapt my teaching style to suit their individual needs, with a strong focus on building understanding and achieving steady progress. I also set weekly homework that allows my students to explore the content theyโ€™ve learnt, challenge their understanding, and ask questions that will deepen their knowledge.
