• 1) When did you develop an interest in your chosen field and in private tutoring?

  I developed an interest in history as a young boy visiting Castles and other historic sites around the British countryside. I began private tutoring after having worked as a teaching assistant in a primary school where I realised I had a knack for explaining complicated ideas in a simple way.

• 2) Tell us more about the subject you teach, the topics you like to discuss with students (and possibly those you like a little less).

  I teach History at all levels and also primary level English and Maths. I love to discuss any aspect of history as it is my passion but what is most rewarding is sharing information that is new to the student and watching them digest it.

• 3) Did you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  I had an excellent teacher in secondary school called Mr Lindsley, who inspired me in my pursuit of history. His knowledge of Russian history was truly impressive, and he was able to impart to me the fundamentals of historical analysis and good essay writing.

• 4) What do you think are the qualities required to be a good tutor?

  To be a good tutor you must be patient, a good listener and also be able to make subjects which can feel boring, fun and engaging for students.

• 5) Provide a valuable anecdote related to your subject or your days at school.

  I was never a top student at school and did not consider myself to be that intelligent. As I have grown older and progressed through higher education I realised that working hard is as, if not more, important than being smart. It is the key to achieving your educational goals!

• 6) What were the difficulties or challenges you faced or still facing in your subject?

  Historical education still favours the perspective of certain groups and underrepresents others.

• 7) Do you have a particular passion? Is it teaching in general or an element of the subject or something completely different?

  I am passionate about all history but especially enjoy historical narratives which are exciting. I am also a student of martial arts and love training and watching combat sports.
