About Jean
I am an experienced English teacher with twenty five years experience, including a number of years as a Head of English Department, Head of Languages Faculty and Deputy Head Teacher. I care deeply about the students I teach and have achieved outstanding results from working with students in school and in one-to-one tutoring. A number of my students moved up two grades or more in their time working with me. I am professional and conscientious in my approach and prepare carefully for lessons so that work is relevant to each individual student, targeted on their needs and is understood.

I am experienced in one-to-one tutoring as well as teaching in secondary school. One hour lessons, focusing on the skills each student needs to develop, whether this is how to write well, or write a good essay or gaining deeper understanding of an English Literature exam set text and how to write about it. We would begin by me looking at work already undertaken and carrying out an assessment by asking the student to do a piece of writing and reading to me. I teach students from year 7 through to GCSE English and English Literature: students of all levels. My methods will vary from student to student, according to need, however, there will be a lot of discussion to enable deeper understanding, written tasks given and reviewed together in lessons, also oral tasks if needed. We will look at the work undertaken in school, as appropriate, and discuss it to stimulate improvement.

Jean Is an amazing tutor for many reasons. She allowed me to go from a grade 4 in gcse english literature up to a 7. But the way she got me there was by her brilliant skills, she is so helpful and I couldn’t have gotten the grades I got without her.
