About Ashley
With so many paths to learning violin, how do you know which one is going to work the best for you? I work one-on-one with my students to develop a personalized curriculm based off of what they would like to learn, and the pace they would like to learn at. Using a modern approach to a classical system, my students learn at a faster rate than their peers, because topics and processes can be more tailored to how they understand music and their questions surrounding it, all while bulding those critical skills they require early on in their studies.
I currently have 7+ years with violin teaching experience within music schools and through in-home lessons. I have 17 years of violin playing experience. I perform with Chamber Music Ensembles, Orchestras, and Rock Groups all thorughout the Chicago-land area.
I love being able to inspire my students and cause them to think more independently about music. I enjoy when I can help a student discover something they never knew they were good at, or when they accomplish tough feats.
Before I was going to school for it, I was working a retail job that was going nowhere. I realized that what I wanted more than anything, was to spread my love of music. So, I decided to drop everything and pursue teaching. I haven't looked back since.
I currently hold a Bachelors in Music Composition from Columbia College Chicago. I studied under a Grammy-Nominated Composer and a Broadway Pit Violinist. I perform in numerous ensembles throughout the Chicago-land area which include orchestras, rock bands, and other various string ensembles.

We always start with an introduction and some sort of silly joke. One of my biggest goals is to never have a student end my first lesson feeling like they are still nervous around me. Once the ice has broken, we go over thier past music history--even if there is none! I learn about their goals, what inspired them and what they want to be able to do. No goal is too small. My students will never leave their first lesson without learning a song on violin to be able to play. They will be learning to play from day one.
I have worked with students ages 3-80. I have also worked with every skill set--from beginner to advanced.
Take the leap! I want you to love learning just as much as I love teaching. There's no greater fun than being able to play a musical instrument. You never know what you might fall in love with. Try it!
I'm currently adding more electronic systems to my 5-string electric violin's pedal board set-up. I'm currently working with writing for two local Chicago Bands using the new set up.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How much time commitment do you have available to you to practice? That one is a big one. You have to make sure that you have some time to work on practicing, otherwise you won't be getting much from your time spent in the lessons.
In what time frame are you expecting to have learned something, or to be able to play something? Music takes time to learn. It is something that has to be developed. Be prepared for a few months to go by, before you are able to play some of your favorite tunes.
Do I have all the materials needed? We will always discuss this during the first lesson, and typically, I will always bring my materials to show you what you do need to get. You should ideally have your instrument before your lesson, but if you do not know what to get, that is something I can help you with.
How much is this going to cost? There are definitve costs, and some optional ones. You will have to purchase an instrument of some kind. You have to option to buy in full, or rent one if you are not at full-size. You will also need to buy supplies like books, rosin and a shoulder rest. These can be found at various prices. Also of course, the cost of the lesson.
