About Rohan
I greatly enjoy playing professionaly in orchestral and chamber settings, and imparting my knowledge onto students of all ages is a great joy.
Playing viola doesn't just shape one's musical mind, but also their whole lifestyle and mindset.
I have played with numerous professional ensembles, including the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and been a member of a competivie professional string quartet. Additionally, I have my own set of pedagogical materials and handouts, along with abundant experience teaching to make people learn quickly and effectively.
I have taught for almost 6 years, and have been playing viola for more than 10. I completed a BM/BA dual degree in Political Science and Viola Performance at Boston University, and completed an MM in Viola Performance at the University of Maryland.
I currently teach in Austin TX, both privately and through a non-profit called Austin Soundwaves.
I love bringing music to peoples lives. While it is challenging, and requires discpline, patience, and practice - being able to create music and share it with others is art in its highed and purest form.
It comes naturally with the profession! But my first real teaching experience came from coming back to teach my high school orchestra teachers string class, in a sectional format.

I will first inquire about your past musical experience, and any background in music. Depending on whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced student, I will proceed differently. A beginner student will spend a large amount of time on set-up, and depending on their musical background, need time spent on basic theory. Advanced students may not need this - but may need adjustments and some review.
Every student will have their own personally catered curriculum - if the studio gains enough size, students in similar playing levels will share etudes and exercises, as studio assignments.
I have worked with all levels of student. Beginner to pre-professional/professional.
Always take a trial lesson - and when a perfect fit is found, be prepared to come to every lesson well practiced and prepared. Listen to your teacher! They want the best for you.
I loved the past (and currently ongoing) online season of the Berlin Philharmonic!

Am I ready to set aside time daily to practice my instrument?
Am I ready to come to lessons fully prepared?
Am I ready to take notes during lessons, ask questions, and be active?
Learning an instrument is very fun - but it is not a passive job. You must be proactive, inquisitive, and come to lessons ready to learn and play.

Details
Hour long lessons are $50 dollars. Half hour lessons are $25 dollars.
If a student wishes to have weekly lessons (or take lessons per semester), monthly rates can be discussed and individually tailored.
