About PJ
I'm trained in a wide variety of musical fields, in addition to trombone performance and pedagogy. This deeper knowledge of composition, engraving, recording tech, and the like help me keep my pedagogy in the greater context of the musical world.

I've been teaching trombone and beginning brass lessons in the Lawrence and Topeka area since August 2019.
I have a Doctorate of Musical Arts in trombone performance from the University of Kansas. I've been playing the trombone for over 20 years, and began specializing in bass trombone during high school.

First, we need to get a sense of where they are, and where they want to be. Are they taking lessons to work on specific repertoire for competition, or just to progress as a player? Do they need to work on music reading comprehension? Once we establish what the student needs, as well as what they want, we can set a course for lessons down the road.
I've worked with trombonists from Elementary to Undergraduate, beggining trupeters, and beginning horn players but my most common students are late-middle-school trombonists.
