About Kianna
Hi! My name is Kianna and this will be my fourth season teaching swimming lessons. I've worked at a summer camp and private swim school and have taught children ages 2 months-13 years old. I can teach all abilities, from brand new swimmers to competitive swimmers looking for some endurance and technique training. I have also worked with children with special needs. I was a competitive swimmer myself for 10 years and I have my CPR certification.
Not only is swimming a safety skill, but it is an enjoyable, rewarding activity for people of all ages! I love watching the children I teach progress and learn new skills. It is so rewarding to see them beam with confidence as they face a fear or master a new skill. I love being able to share the love of swimming with those I teach.
I first started teaching when I was hired as a lifeguard for a summer camp. Part of my daily responsibilities were to plan and teach 4 different groups of lessons. I loved planning out the lessons each day and sharing ideas with my co-workers. This is when I fell in love with teaching because there is nothing quite like seeing a child go underwater, swim across the pool, or jump in for the first time. Teaching lessons each morning quickly became my favorite part of the day.

When I start working with a new student, I always like to talk to the parent first to get an idea of what the child may be comfortable with. I'll then do my own evaluation during the first lesson to determine the child's level of comfort in the water, what skills they may already have, and what skills may need some work. Above all else, the first lesson is an important time to build trust with the new student!
I have worked with children of all ages and abilities. I've taught infants as young as 2 months all the way up to teenagers. Some of these children had been extremely fearful of the water while others were on the road to joining a swim team. I've also worked with children with special needs such as autism, ADHD, epilepsy and more.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Think about what type of schedule works best for you. When are you looking to begin lessons? Are you looking for lessons once a week or a few times each week?
If lessons will not be taking place at your private pool, please make sure your public or community pool allows for outside lessons to be conducted.
What is your child's current swimming ability? Are they comfortable in the pool? Do they wear a lifejacket/swimmies? What are your goals for them regarding swimming lessons?

Details
I charge $25 per half hour lesson. I offer a sibling discount of $5 off for each child after the 1st (1st child is $25, 2nd+ is $20), provided that lessons are scheduled back to back. If you prefer a longer lesson, please contact me to work out pricing. I prefer to teach lessons one-on-one because I feel that the child learns more that way. If you prefer to do a group lesson with children that are around the same age and ability level, please contact me for pricing (ages 3+ only for groups).
