About Amy
Hi! My name is Amy Gruber and I have been teaching private voice and general music since 1995. I am certified k-12 and have my BS in Music Ed. with a concentration in vocal studies from Hofstra University and my MS in Foundations of Ed. also from Hofstra. I continue to be a member of NATS, and have also been a member of SCMEA and MENC in my teaching career. My major instrument is voice. I sang professionally, as well as taught general music, voice and choral groups while employed by the Brentwood Music Department on Long Island, New york for several years before having kids.
I continuously study, hone up on my skills and keep my instrument polished, so I can be the best voice teacher I can be for my students! I am currently continuing my Opera voice studies with Opera singer, Julia Koci! If you are ever in Vienna, you can hear her at the Volksoper! :)
I now teach in my spacious, newly remodeled home studio in Toms River, NJ.
It is my passion to help students achieve all of their singing goals! I love to hand tailor every voice lesson to the needs of each individual student. It is my passion and goal to help my students succeed and to be the best singer they can possibly be!

I have been singing since I was very young, my education and background are in this area, and I absolutely love what I do! :)

When working with a new student, I try to make them feel as comfortable as possible while I am learning about them. At their first introductory lesson, I will make sure they are able to demonstrate proper posture and breathing technique. These are the most important fundamentals for a singer! I will explore the students vocal range, through safe and effective age and level appropriate vocalises and also begin to explore some appropriate repertoire for that individual student :)
I have worked with students of all levels, backgrounds, and abilities. I LOVE what I do!
I would tell someone who is looking to hire a voice teacher, to first check their credentials, expertise and experience in the area, and to also make sure the student and the teacher's personalities fit.
I am particularly fond of a mini musical that my students and I put on at the studio. We had so much fun, learned so much and I really enjoyed watching them grow from the first rehearsal to the performance!
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
I would tell a student to think about what goals they may have as a singer. I would also tell them to ask the teacher about their process, and would tell them to talk over any specific needs they may have.

Mrs. Gruber is an extremely helpful and knowledgeable teacher. She can teach correct breathing techniques, as well as many other useful tips for singing. She goes very in-depth on these topics to make sure you get a thorough understanding of the topic.
