About Laura
I work with mostly youth and children. I direct the Chugiak Girls Choir and also teach privately on the side in my home studio.
My goals are to instill confidence in young boys and girls and older youth by teaching them how to carry themselves, sing, breathe and perform.
I have been teaching choirs and privately for about 25 years. I belong to the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the Alaska and National chapters (NATS.org or NATSAlaska.org)

I had a parent from one of the choirs I directed ask me to give private lessons to her son. She got me started.
I have been teaching for 25 years. I have sung professionally in Arizona, California and Alaska in the following venues: Arizona Opera Company, Bill Hunter Big Band, Bay City Big Band, Walter Flory Trio, Tommy Dorsey Ghost Band, Kevin Barnett Quartet, Anchorage Opera.
I attended Glendale Community College as a vocal performance major and then Norther Arizona University in a special Summer program.
I was the Executive Director of a Music School in Eagle River, Alaska for two years and directed shows and taught privately in addition to running the business.

I first ask what the goals of the student are. It could be to be a stronger singer or it could be just to help with a one time song.
I also make opportunities for my students to perform in public and encourage them to participate in competitions of all different types of music.
All different boys and girls, men and women. Old and young.
I do two major concerts per year in conjunction with another studio. The last few years we have done the music of Disney, Jazz with a live band, Beatles with a live band, Motown, 60's music, classical, Broadway and our newest venture will be music of the 80's in the Spring. I teach movement on stage as well.

The Chugiak Girls Choir meets once per week on Tuesday nights from 6:30pm to 8 and this is $30. per month
