About Melanie
I guide and inspire others interested in learning the skill of sewing. I offer beginner's one on one SEWING lessons. I provide all supplies + sewing machines. I DO NOT travel for classes nor do I provide any other type of class ( no crochet, no knitting, no fiber arts, no painting). Classes are held at my studio in Queens, NY. Please feel free to inquire about Sewing classes.
I began teaching at a public school in Harlem and found it professionally satisfying to inspire children through sewing. It started as a side gig and has evolved into my full time job :)

About the lesson

Students learn how to use the sewing machine, lay & cut patterns and fabric and sewing. Students choose to create & keep either a pillow case, apron or tote bag.
I have mainly worked with people of all ages.
A teacher with skill is important, but so is patience. Students should choose a teacher who understands that all people learn differently.
I am most fond of my 1st home sewing class, where I had five students ages 6-9. The most exciting part was to see their faces light up once they discover they have a skill for sewing.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Is sewing something I really want to do?
Once I learn sewing, what am I going to do with it?
Will I be dedicated to sewing?
Like anything else repitition is important. You have to keep sewing, and sewing, and sewing until at last ......... you get it!

Excellent! We have not worked together yet, but her phone presence was very good and welcoming. If the classes are any thing like her phone presence I believe the experience will be rewarding.
Perfect! Melanie is amazing!!! Before starting classes she asked me about my goals so that she could help cater the lessons towards what I wanted to learn. I started my lessons with 0 sewing experience and came out being able to make my own apron from scratch but more importantly, having genuinely learned sewing basics so that I can confidently continue on my sewing journey. Melanie is a natural teacher and an extremely welcoming person. She always made learning fun, made sure I understood what she was teaching me, and that I knew how to troubleshoot my machine so that I could fix any mistakes I made without an issue. Will definitely be going back for more lessons in the future!!
