About David
I offer private and group lessons either in home or at a convieniet location for my students. I have over twenty years of experience in Goju-Ryu Karate as well as several other traditional martial arts.
I started teaching basic self defense when I was still in high school. After many years of study and training I felt the need to share the knowledge I had acquired with others, and started teaching.
I hold a san-dan in Okinawan Goju-Ryu. As well as a sho-dan in Japanese Shotokan. I began training at the age of 15.

I meet with the student to assess what their needs and goals are. Some simply want to learn basic self defense, others are interested in beginning a lifelong journey in martial arts.
Children, teens, adults, seniors, even those with disabilities.
The best advice I can give one interested in learning martial arts is to be wary of anyone who hands out black belts after only a year or two of study. Even though a black belt only marks the true beginning of your journey in the martial arts, it still takes many years to reach the level of understanding and ability to justify wearing a black belt.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
The main question to consider before speaking with an instructor is what you want to get out of training. Do you want to study martial arts just to improve your fitness? Or are you looking to have the confidence that comes from knowing you are better prepared to defend yourself in a physical altercation? Knowing what you want, and how committed you are to training helps your teacher to tailor your training to you.
