About Laura
As a teacher, I employ multiple approaches when coaching my students. I see each one as a unique individual, and enjoy finding just the right methods to instruct, inspire, and motivate.
I love to seeimy students grow and develop their musicianship. I feel a sense of accomplishment for every breakthrough they achieve.
I began teaching when I was 21 when I was trained by Jamey Aebersold to teach jazz improvisation at his summer jazz workshops. As a professional musician, I find that teaching helps me to give back and contribute to future generations!
Laura Dreyer has a Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Empire State College, where she received a SUNY Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence, and was also a scholarship student at the acclaimed Berklee College of Music. She is very active as a music educator, having served on the faculties of Hoff-Barthelson Music School, Church St. School for Music and Art, Jamey Aebersold Jazz Clinics, Cazadero Music and Arts Camp, and Jazz Camp West. I like to spent time getting to know my student’s goals and musical preferences before I recommend books and assign practice homework. It’s very important to me to tailor the lessons to the student’s expectations, supported by my guidance.
I have worked with students from age 4 to 64. The most important quality is the desire to learn!
