About Phil
I have been singing and teaching for over 30 years both professionally and for my own enjoyment.
Singing is my passion, it is what I do.
I have found that teaching someone to enjoy and express themselves through music is perhaps one of the most rewarding things I do. I was very fortunate to have as my teacher, someone who believed in passing on his knowledge and understanding of what it takes to be a great singer. Little did I know at the time but he was training me to pass on his legacy and it has been my great honor to do so.
Our new studio will be a place where students of all ages can learn and explore the wonders of music from the beginning novice to the more advanced musician, in a friendly and constructive environment.
We provide a warm and friendly place in which to learn and practice the art of Music or if you wish we can bring the studio to you. We offer private lessons with qualified instructors, group classes, and performance opportunities.
The study of music has been proven to aid in brain development and cognitive ability. Our programs will appeal to all ages and all levels of expertise from beginner to advanced. Our professional instructors are experienced in both teaching and performing and can give the student great insight into the world of music.
A graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice and Music Theater.
I keep up with current trends through the professional organizations I belong to. In addition to this I am continuously researching and studying on my own.

I take a physiological approach to singing… after all it is a physical endeavor. The voice or larynx, despite all its complexities, is just another set of muscles that can be trained to reach its fullest potential. The method that I teach, “The Franco/Italian Bel Canto Method” has been taught for more than 200 years and has produced the world’s greatest classical singers. Now having said that let me assure you that studying this method doesn’t mean you have to become a classical singer. The techniques used are designed to strengthen and improve the quality of the human voice and can be applied to any genre whether your goal is “Broadway”, “American Idol” or just to improve your voice for you own personal satisfaction. The method also addresses all things associated with singing, such as breathing and breath control.
Finding the right teacher is probably the most important thing a person can do. It is extremely important to make a wise choice when choosing a teacher. Teaching someone to sing is much like building a multi-story structure. You must first build a strong foundation on which to build the rest of the voice. The method that I teach takes great care to build such a foundation and has been proven time and time again over the past 200+ years. You should look for a teacher that is a “Singer” first, i.e. you wouldn’t ask a plumber to fix an electrical problem in your home so why would you ask an accompanist for vocal lessons. If you want to learn the art of singing you should learn it from a singer.
During the school year I teach voice as a contract music instructor for both Plano and Lewisville ISD's. At the end of each school year the students perform in recital for their parents and friends. I am always very proud of my students as the demonstrate what they have learned and how much they have improved through the year.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
How long have you been teaching? Where did you receive your training? Where did you go to school? What will be my commitment, both financially and in time? What do I hope to achieve by studying with this teacher? Does the teacher do this full-time or is it a part-time effort to supplement their income? You should seek a teacher that has many years of experience and is well educated in the art of singing. Although a degree does not make one a great singer or even a good one it does give a great deal of credibility to the teacher and substantiates his/her qualifications.

Phil is and has been working with my daughter since she was 7, she is 13 now. He is patient kind, enthusiastic and conscious about her skill set and has helped her grow over the years. I would highly recommend him for piano or voice lessons.
Both my children have been learning from Phil Wolcott at Prestonwood Music for over 4 years. He has been the perfect teacher as I have seen my children develop their skills at BOTH playing piano and reading music! Very patient and always positively encouraging my kids in sharpening their playing skills. Mr. Wolcott has also been very accommodating in scheduling classes around our busy schedules.
My son has been taking lessons at Prestonwood Music Studio for 5 years and has loved it. He’s progressed so much in that time, and Phil is the most patient and kind teacher. I would recommend Prestonwood Music Studio to anyone wanting to learn in a fun and warm environment.
I have been a student of Phil’s for ten years! Four of those years were spent in piano, but a majority of them were spent in singing.
Phil is absolutely an incredible teacher and has taught me essentially everything I know about the art of singing. I’ve excelled in most of the environments I’ve sung in, standing out due to the techniques and qualities I gained from my lessons with Phil.
I highly recommend him to anyone who wants to sing, beginner, intermediate, or professional alike.I have been a student here for 4 years. Phil is an amazing teacher, and I have learned and grown so much in that time.
Some studios will teach you a few songs and that's it. Prestonwood doesn't teach songs, they teach you to sing - and to sing properly.
We spent the first year just training my voice and developing tone and technique. Only then did I attempt my first real piece. Phil makes sure you have the building blocks to sing the music you love, better than you thought you were able to.
Phil Wolcott knows what he's doing. He's been a professional singer, sung opera, oratorios, musical theater and more. He knows what it takes to be good, and he doesn't just tell you - he works with you to show you why it works and how you can do it better.
One of the best things is that Phil knows what I'm capable of even when I don't and sets pieces that allow me to aim beyond what I can do today. At every steps he teaches the techniques that will help me to achieve the goal, and never loses patience - even when I don't get it right the first few times.
He's not the kind of teacher that pushes students in a direction - he encourages, supports and works on areas for improvement.
I have worked with Phil both in his studio and online, and he is a great teacher in both places. I continue to grow in confidence and ability (slowly) but my lessons are the highlight in each week.My sister gave me an old 🪗 accordion for my 70th birthday. I had had accordion lessons when I was 7 and 8 years old. After my family moved to Texas and out in the country, I couldn’t continue lessons. Now with retirement and accordion in hand, I set out to find a teacher. Phil Wolcott was willing to take me on. After 2 years taking lessons, I had learned more than I’d thought possible and I wanted more. I started piano lessons as well. Phil Wolcott is a great teacher. He has a ton of patience and a wry sense of humor. His lessons are helpful, informative and fun.
