Piano has always been a dream for me to play so when I met Isaac at the dog run in Bushwick I finally made the leap. I've now been working with him for 6 months and am happy to say it is has developed into a blessing and a joy. Isaac is a young and radiant person, exuding a positive energy that seems to be bound to his love for music. Isaac is an extremely impressive and masterful piano player, a talent that is evenly matched by his eagerness and generosity to share his knowledge and passion. His teaching style is caring, attentive, professional and generous but never condescending or pedagogical nor does he ever rush through lessons. His house is warm and inviting and a block and a half from the L train. He is not only a great piano teacher but also one of the best teachers I've had yet. For the quality of the teacher I consider it to be a great deal. I highly recommend him!
His passion, sharp wit, snarky demeanor, and his unparalleled skills in teaching and playing will keep you coming back. I have advanced way beyond where I thought I would be for the short time I have been playing. He knows how to read his student and teach accordingly.
Isaac is a wonderful, patient and passionate teacher who truly loves his art. That love of music is what he shares with his students. What he has taught me and shared with me will last forever.
Isaac is great. I've been learning with him for almost a year now and it's been all around a positive, productive and exciting learning experience. He is extremely knowledgable in music and can easily adapt his lessons to cater to his student's goals and interests. 5++
Isaac is a fantastic teacher. I've been taking lessons with him for a little less than a year and my progress has been tremendous. He's extremely passionate, you can tell he truly cares about working together and making every lesson count.
I've been seeing Isaac for almost a year and am so pleased with how it's turned out. I wasn't sure what I wanted to get out of lessons when I started, except to see if I could get anything resembling music to come out of a piano. Isaac is completely responsive to the student’s needs, and in my case helped fill in the blanks and design a set of goals to help me explore both the range of the piano and my own musical range, something I had not thought about before, without having to memorize volumes of lesson books first.
Isaac is thoroughly versed in music theory and plays multiple instruments so there is never a question or concept that can't be discussed, but more importantly, he is someone who truly loves music and spreading that gift to others, which makes him so great to go through this learning process with. - Highly recommend !I wanted something that differed from the sometimes stale, traditional, methodological piano lessons I had in the past. Isaac was able to deliver that. His lessons are creative and flexible--he'll cater and adapt to your needs and learning styles. While I always felt incapable of improvising, Isaac dedicates part of his lessons to just that and I definitely feel as though I can now play more confidently when playing or working on a melody. While I still have a long road ahead of me, Isaac has instilled me with a better understanding of piano the instrument and piano the poetry.
I have been a professional drummer for over 10 years touring and recording with various bands. Recently, I decided to compose my own solo music. Being that my musical background mainly comes from percussion I wanted to find a way to enhance my melodic skills. I was lucky enough to find a piano teacher like Isaac. He understands the creative writing process and teaches in a way that is fun and full of energy – the ideal learning arena. Instead of throwing boring sheet music at me he was able to critique my own works and show me ways to improve and improvise on my own melodies making them more “colorful”. The work he provides for me to take home and practice helps to focus & strengthen each lesson. After 6 months I hear a huge improvement - whether it's playing keyboards or producing electronic music. The skills that Isaac teaches are geared for any level and can improve all areas of your musical endeavors.
Coming from only an elementary school background in music education, Isaac has been incredible in setting solid foundation for growth. He has such a great way relating many types of music and theory into every lesson. He has been the knowledgeable and supportive teacher i was looking for.
If you're looking for a patient and knowledgeable piano teacher Isaac's your man. I've been taking lessons for about six months and my technique and reading ability have improved dramatically. Not only is he flexible in style but he is also very accommodating when it comes to your pace, an important point in a city with so much going on. If your hope is to learn or improve your skills on the piano, Isaac is definitely the man for the job!
After years of failed attempts to take (and stick with) piano lessons, I found studying with Isaac provided me with a learning environment in which I could make real progress. As a teacher, Isaac is encouraging, insightful, and compassionate; as a musician, he's achieved a level of mastery and dedication to practice, and has an amazing talent for composition in a breadth of musical styles. Highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn piano.
I have been taking lessons with Isaac for a few months now. Everything you read is true! Well, anything good. Isaac is a super awesome instructor with a very deep passion for music and sharing his knowledge. I basically started as a beginner. Isaac sat down with me and we clearly outlined my goals and aspirations before starting, so that he could best help me get to where I want to go. He is super flexible. Whether you want to learn theory and sight-reading, or just a few party tunes to impress your family, Isaac will make sure it's a positive experience. He is great at always pushing me to improve, but at the same time, never makes me feel uncomfortable. He is an amazing musician and can teach a wide variety of genres, BUT most of all, Isaac is just a really fun person to learn from and he makes the experience very enjoyable. Thanks Isaac!
Issac is a wonderful teacher, He's dedicated, encouraging and passionate.
I've had the pleasure of taking classes with him for more than 6 months and I have seen more progress with him that I have seen in years with other teachers.
He listened to what I wanted to learn, and then designed a course of study specifically for me.
He's style relaxed and professional at the same time. I look forward for his class each week.
I recommend him to anyone who is interested in taking piano lessons.I approached Issac 5 months ago to finally receive some formal music instruction. The previous 18 years were spent as a self taught guitarist that toyed with keys occasionally. I wanted to develop technical and improvisational skills so that I could be more comfortable jumping in on keys in a jam, or for my own personal stuff. I wasn't really too interested in reciting other peoples music or learning to read music.
The first session, Issac evaluated where I was at and listened to where I wanted to go.
Subsequent sessions, developed upon this. Note, this first session was free, which I appreciated. There wasn't a hard sell etc.
Subsequent classes went at my pace and focused on things that I'd requested, rather than sticking to a regimented routine. I appreciated this flexibility, as I tend to learn things best when I have a use for them.
What followed were plenty of technical exercises and theoretical discussions that opened my eyes to a whole new dynamic of music (previously, being framed by a guitar mindset).
I am taking a break for a month or two to absorb the lessons to date and put what I learned into action. I'll be resuming again, once ready to tackle the next level.
Other notes... nice setting out of his apartment, classes do not feel rushed and there is an open discursive format about piano and the nature of music. All things combined, consider me a happy student.I highly recommend taking lessons with Issac.
He has always treated me with the utmost kindness and respect. Taking the time to get to know me, and then tailoring his approach based on my individual learning style. He has always remained positive and patient, and his passion for music has inspired me to keep coming back week after week.
He continually goes above and beyond the call of duty, encouraging me to grow as a both a musician and as a human being. I can’t imagine anyone not benefiting from from his teachings.Isaac was highly recommend by two different music artist friends of mine. I'm a "computer musican" and wanted to add the piano in my productions and DJ sets. Issac thought me the skills I needed to make my own sound.
We meet on a weekly basis for almost a year now. He's very thorough and patient when he teaches. He makes learning fun!
I highly recommend learning from Isaac if you've never touched a piano key in your life or if you're a master of the keys and need inspiration!I began taking piano lessons with Isaac about eight months ago. After spending years wanting to learn how to play the piano, I finally decided to seek active and effective mentorship. I am happy to say I have found the individual that I am confident will allow me to make great strides in my musical journey.
Isaac Cohen represents the epitome of piano instruction. His ability to synthesize large amounts of musical knowledge and present them to his students in an accessible manner makes each lesson a unique learning experience. If you want to truly grow as a piano player, a constant stream of lessons with Isaac would unequivocally be my best recommendation.I'm a beginner adult and I've been taking classes with Isaac since January 2018. Isaac is an excellent instructor and very talented. After a few lessons with him, he knew exactly how my brain works and thinks in terms of music and he gave me wonderful tips on how to express music than just notes themselves which have tremendously improved my skills in a short period of time. Now, I feel so much confident in my playing.
Isaac has that rare quality of pushing me to try my best to fulfill my potential, yet doing so in a way that doesn't overwhelm or causes me to be discouraged. He has helped me to refine my practice technique and understand how to play the music. I truly appreciate his patience and his kind personality.
It's been a privilege working with Isaac. I highly recommend him to any one who would like to learn the piano!Isaac is a wonderful teacher who has a great energy and a genuine love of music. His very practical and intuitive approach helped me understand so much that had previously seemed too daunting or complex. He tailors each lesson to help you achieve your own unique musical goals and I highly recommend him as an invaluable guide on your piano journey.
