I began teaching soon into college, aside from school activities I also started teaching at marching band and jazz camps in the summer. I really enjoy working with students of all ages and feel like I have a lot to offer from my experience in many different styles of music.
I have an undergraduate degree in Music Education from The Ohio State University and a Masters in Jazz Performance from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music. Since school I have continued to present workshops and masterclasses all over the world.

For a new student I first will evaluate what skills the currently posess, and what new things they hope to learn. After our first introductory lesson we will establish some goals and go from there!
I've worked with students of all ages from age 3-83. I really enjoy working with young kids, moving, dancing, singing, and playing all kinds of crazy instruments and sound effects. I also have taught many elementary, middle, and high school students as well and college and professional musicians. I enjoy working with all age groups, and always reinforce what ever the level that music should be fun, inspiring, and a way to spread joy in this world.
I would tell the student to find a teacher that inspires them and is doing something that they want to do. A ton of things you'll learn from a music teacher might not be related to music at all. Some of my best teachers may not have even been in music, but they were great mentors that pushed me to follow my passions. Find a teacher that cares about you and your dreams, and will inspire you in music and in life!
Recently I had to opportunity to perform in Nigeria, and got to witness some incredible local performers. It was very moving to see such passion for music and talent, in a place that is much more challenging to live than in the USA. It really inspired me to cherish the resources I have, and how fortunate I am to make music for a living.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Before commiting to lessons a student should be ready to spend some time on their craft. A lot of times things won't come easily, or students will progress at different speeds. Its ok to try something new out, but make sure you are willing to give it some time to develop and keep and open mind when you are starting a new journey. You never know where it will lead you!
