About Abby
I am passionate about teaching students of all ages the joys of Music and Language. My approach to Piano Instruction is holistic and differentiated to each student. I often integrate whole body movement such as clapping and stepping to help students internalize essential rhythmic patterns in music.
Patterns are paramount and I encourage students to identify patterns in harmonic relationships, phrases, and to help them find links between musical expression and verbal and cultural expression. My aim is for our lessons to be high-energy, welcoming, and cognitively stimulating. The supreme goal of a teacher is to foster a students' sense of self-efficacy by encouraging them to try, fail, discover, fix and create!
Education:
Bachelor of Arts in Piano Performance with Double Minors in Spanish and Psychology
Experience in Performing Arts:
28 years of Piano Study with considerable experience in Advanced Piano Performance, Vocal Training, Choral Ensembles, Theater and Musical Theater.
Teaching Experience:
19 years as a Private and Group Piano Instructor
7.5 years as a PreK-12 Instructional Assistant and Substitute Teacher in Title-I schools
14 years as a tutor in TESOL, Spanish, and General Education
Language Experience:
Spanish Conversational Fluency

Perfect! Abby is a great piano teacher! She is very knowledgeable, patient, and easy to work with. She has been very flexible about accommodating my daughter's sports schedule by switching days, times, and shortening or lengthening lessons as needed. Her prices are very reasonable and I love the update that she sends me after each lesson so that I know what my daughter should be working on. Would highly recommend!
Perfect! Abby is an exceptional teacher. I have had three piano instructors in my training and she is the best. Abby is caring, patient, and knowledgable. She makes learning fun and enjoyable. I look forward to my lessons. She is phenomenal in helping with difficult fingerings, chord progressions, and musical theory. Abby is very nice and sweet person to work with. She has been teaching Piano to my daughter for past 4 years. She puts lot of effort to send the homework notes very detailed every week without fail. She is flexible when we cant make it to class some times. My daughter learned so much from her. I would highly recommend her!
Abby has been a wonderful teacher, mentor and piano instructor to my children who are ages 7 and 10 since August, 2017. Abby is passionate about music and is an excellent piano instructor as she understands how to teach everything from the fundamentals to higher levels of music to different age groups. Abby’s broad range of music experience, her desire to teach children and attention to detail are what make her an outstanding music teacher. I highly recommend Abby and her group classes.
I have been taking "virtual" lessons for a little over six months now and can attest that Abby is a wonderful and very patient teacher. Starting to learn piano later in life, it has been a long time since I've had exposure to music basics, but Abby has been happy to answer any questions and is constantly offering encouragement. I've been particularly impressed with the way she crafts and personalizes practice assignments, ensuring focus on any areas I've struggled with recently. I also enjoy that Abby often throws in historical tidbits for added context, or little tie-ins to other fields of study. These enhance the lessons and often aid with remembering the topic at hand.
