About Kevin
The process of painting is filled with incredible challenges and rewards. Often the two go hand in hand. The creative process is often a dialogue between the artist and the creation. Although the process can be overwhelming or frustrating at times, when the artist works through, great things can happen. For a beginning artist, this process is often a bit intimidating, but most just need some structure and guidance to encourage their creative potential to be expressed.
It has been said that every interaction offers an opportunity to teach and learn. I personally learn from others all the time and I am honored when I can give back to those who may be beginning their artistic journey.
As a teacher I can share my experience as an artist who has both academic and self taught experience. In conjunction to being a painter, I hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling, so I can often appreciate a learner’s subjective experience in the creative process. This unique combination can offer structure and support, two important ingredients for the learning process.
As a painter, I have been in several RI exhibitions, received awards, and have organized community events for other artists. I enjoy all subject matters, but I tend to focus on figurative and allegorical work. This is not to say, I work exclusively in these areas. A well rounded artist can work in multiple domains.
As a traditional painter, I am passionate about working with the methods of the ‘Old Masters’. With this said, I fully appreciate there are many ways to paint, each with their benefits and limitations. It is important for each student to discover what excites him/her in art. Having the opportunity to help others in their creative journey is a great reward and privilege.
