About Wendy
I teach the process of being a true artist through discovery and experimentation of the medium you want to learn. I specialize professionally in encaustics (hot wax painting), fused glass, watercolor, acrylics, digital design using Photoshop, Illustrator, and drawing apps on iPads using the Apple Pencil.
I enjoy the dichotomy of technique with the force of also having letting go for parts of certain mediums you can only control soo much. I love finding the joy and excite that drives the desire to create.
I started teaching over 15 years ago. I started guest lecturing at various colleges in Southern California where I owned my own gallery. I became a web designer while working my way through my graduate degrees in visual arts and education. I mov d to MN, finished my graduate degrees and immediately began teaching in the public and charter school setting. About a year ago I had to go on m decal leave for a rare condition I have which effects my ligaments and tendons. Now I hope to teach privately in order to continue my love of art and teaching to those who want to grow through that process.

MA Arts Education
2010 Power of Art Recipient from the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation
I specialize in using acrylics, watercolors, oil paints, mixed media collage, encaustics (hot wax painting), and fused glass. I can teach lessons in any of those. I also work in clay at times if someone is interested in hand built sculpture.

I like to find out what you want to learn, what drives your creative process, what your goals for learning are, and then we make a plan specific to what your goals are. My goal is to help you create the same way a professional would. We start with idea processing, research, planning, execution, and flexibility in thought as your ideas flex to fit where you are in the process and how to finish.
i have worked with ages preschool to the elderly. The types of students I work with are those who are open to exploring their dreams in art, who are motivated to try new things, who love to learn, and who wish to express themselves visually through their art. I have taught bare bones beginners to people who just need another eye to help with the details uirement is that you want to be here and you want to make art...everything is owe comes with time, growth, and practice.
Prepare yourself to be open to many different techniques and aye of accomplishing your goals as an artist. There is never only 1 way to do art, but there is a way you will find that you love doing it best. Only through opening yourself up to the many possibilities of creating can you find your favorites.
I try to create a safe environment to express yourself without judgement. To have a space of belonging. I had a student this past year tell me in their last class or their senior year that I was the first teacher they had where they felt they could truly be themself.

Details
$65 an hour, lessons are designed after a cobnsultation period where we talk about your goals, make a plan, and then begin exciting those goals starting in the first lesson. I will teach you how to think, plan, and create through the process of a professional artist.
