About Noah
Hello My name is Noah and I am your next math tutor! I love math and I love making math enjoyable for my students. I have years of experience tutoring high school math and I would love to work with you to expand your skills and confidence and help you tackle any math or math-intensive course! I have a BS in Mathematics from Penn State with an focus in General Mathematics. As part of my degree distribution requirements I took many courses in engineering and physics. I have experience with front end development and some scientific computing. If you feel like you're behind and you need some help catching up I am very good at breaking down all the mathematical fundamentals to give you the strong foundations you need to succeed in any math class. I also love working with students who want to work ahead and even skip courses. You won't be disappointed!
I have always enjoyed teaching because.. well there aren't many things in this world that I can understand but one of the few things I have a pretty good handle on is core mathematical concepts.
Believe it or not I get a huge kick out of being able to share that knowledge with others. I love watching things click for people.
Something that is important to me is making math less scary and intimidating. I feel that the greatest failure of the school system is that it is structured so that anybody who falls behind in math starts to get the impression that they are not good at it when all it takes is a little help to get them back on track. But the absence of a little help at the right time builds math anxiety and the learned false impression that they just aren't good at math.
Above all else I endeavor to make math not scary and not intimidating and to empower people to feel like they can be good at math. Because anybody can be good at math with the right skillset and approach. It's not rocket surgery :)
I have a Bachelors of Science in Mathematics from Pennsylvania State University.
I have a minor in Engineering Mechanics and took many cross-distribution requirements in physics and engineering.
I have been tutoring math for many years, on all levels through high school and some college. I have worked at Mathnasium previously.

I like to get started by discussing where the student is, and what their goals are for tutoring. Perhaps they have something specific they plan to accomplish, or maybe they need help getting back on track with a math course.
After that I come up with a simple plan to try to get them to where they need to be. We can start working together on their schedule so I can help them accomplish and succeed in any area they want.
I have worked with students of all ages and abilities - from young children learning how to tell time on a clock to college graduates studying for the GRE.
I have worked with students with learning disabilities and students who are advanced and want to push further.
I would love it if a student had a well articulated goal - a clear idea of what they would like to accomplish. It doesn't matter if it's small like getting an 'A' on the next test or quiz or large like going to college in a quantative field.
It makes me happy whenever I see a student who is proud of themselves and what they accomplished. When I see a student who is empowered and excited to tackle something new.
