About Noah
I have a strong interest in helping students reach their full potential by helping them see complex and sophisticated topics in simple and familiar ways. In 6 years of tutoring i learned that the most important factors in this process are listening to students so i can meet them at their level, and encouraging their participation as frequently as possible.
When I started tutoring I thought it would be a side-project, while I keep looking for a "real" job. But after a few days I realized that I really enjoy the work, both for the satisfaction of helping the students and seeing how happy they are to understand and excel at their homework, and also for the setting in which I keep learning new things as I work.
I worked for 8 years tutoring students after school in a variety of subjects and grade levels, mostly math and sciences, from arithmetic/prealgebra up through mv calculus and GRE/mcat prep. Before tutoring I was in grad school for my PhD in neuroscience.

It's important to converse with the student and build a rapport, which helps me understand what they know and what they need to do next. It's also important for establishing a dynamic where the student is more active, answers questions, and has a good time. Based on these initial responses, I can usually write prompts or problems that help the student understand the principles and reasoning behind the topic while we move forward with it.
The biggest set of students I have worked with have been high-schoolers studying for the SAT and ACT. I have also tutored students from 3rd grade up through college near-grads studying for GRE or their college math/physics/chemistry courses.
I recently visited Havana to run the half-marathon. It was a great day for me because I was really living in the moment (for a lot of moments throughout the day), and it was also a challenge I hadn't met before (I finished in 2:19).
