About Ryan

Hi there! My name is Ryan and I am a current student and tutor at Harvard University.

Please email me at (concealed information) to reach out to me directly, as I do not respond to messages in this service. ( I charge $45 per hour).

I have tutored for over 1000 hours over the past 5 years, both domestically and internationally (in Italy and France), and have worked with students from elementary school all the way up to college juniors. I primarily tutor math but have also tutored english and the social sciences, and I provide SAT/ACT, SAT 2, and PSAT services, as well as college advising and essay reviews. During highschool I completed 13 AP exams (five 4's and eight 5's), and have in-depth knowledge about a variety of subjects. I would be more than happy to work with you or your child, especially in light of the recent school closures and look forward to hearing from you!

Please feel free to reach out at (concealed information) and expect responses within 24 hours.

Best wishes,

Ryan

I got started when I was entering highschool. A few parents that I knew mentioned that they were willing to give me some money to help their children prepare for their exams, and so I began providing help regularly. The flexibility of tutoring allowed me to fit in sessions around sports, shool work, and family obligations, so I continued!

My education consists of what I acquired through Highschool, online courses, and my years at Harvard. Tutoring-wise, I have honed my work through receiving feedback from those I worked with and by volunteering at an elementary school as a tutor and teacher's assistant.

I generally spend the first session speaking to the parents and students and finding out what their expectations are, as sometimes both respective parties have differing ideas about what has to be done. Once my role has been established I find out about available resources and then determine where the student stands academically in that subject. Some students are in more need of help than others, and to gear an advanced or fast-paced tutoring structure to a student who doesn't necessarily grasp the basics can be frustrating and counterproductive. After that, we get started and begin figuring it all out together!

I have worked with a variety of students, from elemantary students to college students. During my highschool years the kids I worked with were generally locally based, and during the summer I was able to work with a few students based in Europe. At college I have provided tutoring to students both near Harvard and back home.

I would always advise the student to find the right fit. One of the most common concerns I have come across from the students I work with, and one sometimes overlooked by parents, is that the tutors the parents sign on are without a doubt extremely well qualified, but unable to personally relate to their child becoause of differences in age and experiences. Multiple students have mentioned that they greatly appreciate having someone who recently got into an elite college and is familiar with the process, and who has personally taken the most recent versions of finals, AP exams, and SAT's/ACT's, because they have my immediate experiences and expertise to help guide them.

One of my longest tutoring jobs was with a student who was based in France, so we ran our sessions primarily through facetime. He was looking to get ahead in a course, so I was charged with teaching him all of precalculus and trigonometry. After a very stressful period of him getting sick, barely making his flight, and suffering from severe jetlag, he landed in the States and passed his placement exam, allowing him to skip the aforementioned course. He was quite happy, and needless to say, I was quite relieved!

A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Always find out what is available. Many services are not published widely, and many go without being used simply because students aren't aware that they are there. Don't be afraid to ask for help, as teachers (and tutors) are unable to read minds and can sometimes forget that their pupils aren't naturally understanding.
