About Joseph

I currently work inside the school system at East High School T-Stem! It is here where I engage with high schoolers with their academic work. I’m in subjects ranging from English to math 9-12th grade! I have been personally tutors also for the last 3 years. I am very professional and able to get along with the child/ teen that is in need of assistance.

I started through Peer Power while I was in High School. I was selected by the school to tutor my peers to help bring their test scores up.  I was granted to opportunity to come back as a college success coach after I graduated.  Then promoted to team Lead and now I am in the next promotion stage of being an Program director over an select Highschool. 



I currently work with an Organization named Peer Power. This organization was initiated in 2005 at East High School where the goal was to pay high performing highschool students to tutor their peers. Since then the organization has been hiring high performing college students to work inside the classroom to lower the student to teacher ratio.  I am a Team Lead at East Highschool where I perform manegerial duties and also assist inside the 9-12th grade main subject Classroom. English / Math

First getting to know the student and where they are struggling. Next easing their aniexty or worries about the subject constantly re assuring that everything will be alright.  Next immediately engaging in the subject.  Explaining in great detail what the students needs to understand. Then making sure they are able to do the work without my assistance. This will build their confidence. 



I have worked with students from all over Memphis. These students have had different cultures, religions, nationalities, and other diffrenceies.  Also from middle school to college level tutoring.  I was also granted the opportunity to teach my own ACT worship class every Saturday for 2 years at the University of Memphis through Peer Power, which connected me to students from all over the school system! 



Make sure that you are comfortable.  The tutor needs to understand how you learn and adapt to you. Do not settle trying to learn away that is difficult. Ask questions. Maybe there is another way to explain the question that you can better utilize.  



A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Honestly, I believe that the students needs to know where it was when the teacher lost the connection during teaching.  Some students may have understood part of the lecture, but then got confused as the teacher continued.  So know where it is you need help first. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Even if it just to gain clarity or a better understanding.

However I do charge by the hour and there is a minimum of two hours per tutoring session.
