About Mandy
As a recent graduate of Rice University, I am excited to continue my passion for education and learning with you! Throughout college, I served as a peer academic tutor/writing fellow and editor of an undergraduate academic journal.
I am an enthusiastic tutor and writing editor who loves to engage with students and bring motivation to work. I believe in understanding material rather than memorization, and I know that any student can succeed with encouragement and hard work.
I specialize in elementary/middle/high school tutoring in math/science/social sciences/english. I also tutor for ACT and standardized testing prep.
My favorite part of learning is experiencing the ah hah moments where material finally clicks! Academic coursework can be initimating and difficult, but with the right approach, learning can be empowering.

My philosophy:
Tutoring must be student-centered and student-specific. I begin by evaluating the student goal's, their weaknesses and strengths. Together, we come up with a plan to cover appropriate material in an efficient manner and lay out the groundworks and timeline with SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, timebound) goals.
Throughout our sessions, we set up a system of accountability for homework/practice work, and we assess our progress as we go, always adjusting based on the student's needs.
I approach every session with strict standards and expectations for students, but also I believe in the importance of positivity, encouragement and patience. I am friendly, approachable, and here for the student.
