About Funyima
I am a online freelance tutor with 5 years of experience tutoring physics, college algebra, and all level calculus to college students. I have experience teaching people of all age group from new high school graduates to traditional students who have entered college in their later years.
Math is a tool for problem solving, and numerically representating physical phenomenon. Learning it requires memory and understanding. I can teach students through interaction, technique and practical examples to facilitate memorization and help understand its concept/use.
In my opinion classroom is the best environment for students to learn, interact and most importantly grow together through the tedious process of practice and testing. However, in todays education system; faculty to student ratio is larger than ever while the course curriculum and teaching hours remain the same. This overburden towards the teachers result in a classrooom environment that is more centered towards lecture/presentation where interaction is saved for last and students understanding is not gauged and attended to in a timely manner. This is where tutor such as myself can come in and fill in the gap. I will be the third wheel that will guide the student and facilitate the learning process.

Math tutor service in ISU (Idaho State University) Trio (an access and opportunity program) that serves participants from 8th grade to graduate school.
College algebra, precalculus and Calculus I/II tutor service in ISU student succes center (Math center).
Engineering Physics I/II tutor service for ISU department of physics.

1. Preliminary:
Go through the course syllabus and plan tutor lesson with schools schedule.
Student should inform me of what was covered in class including homework/classwork. This can be done with simple photo upload.
2. Tutoring:
Student can ask questions for clarification. This may require presenting quiz, test results and problems that the student could not solve. Tutoring can assist in solving homework to some extent, but should not be completely used to do just homework problems.
3. Example problems
Student will be required to solve certain extra problems. No homework will be assigned unless student is willing to. (Students are already overburdened with coursework).
High school, college and traditional students.
Understanding and memorization are two different process yet complimentary to each other. Math is best learned when understood and if you are looking to persue the STEM field you should lean towards tutor who have proper understanding of the concepts, and how they are used practically. Tutors who are advertised as highest scorers in SAT and are student themselves should be used if student want to just pass through the course, or are willing to undergo heavy course load for SAT prep and are in need of memorization technique.
The current trend of online learning due to Covid 19 imposes more difficulty to students.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Am I able to understand the problem statement?
Does this question require me to have basic understanding of other material? Were there pre requisites to this course?
Did my teacher cover the section of the chapter i.e. is the question relevant to my syllabus?
How did I perform in my classwork and should I re practice class problem before attempting the homework problem?
These are all valid questions that student can ask or should think through to ease discussion during tutor session.

Schedule can be on demand basis. Minimum of 1 hr session and maximum of 4 hours session availability per week. More hours can be provided upon request.
$60 per hr (1 hr per weekdays or 2 hrs per weekend day) - No class on Friday evening.
