About Margaret
Hello! Thank you for visiting my tutoring page. :)
I am an elementary teacher recently out of the classroom and I am excited to bring my knowledge and skills to you via online tutoring! I have taught 3rd and 5th grade, all subjects, although my favorite subjects are math and science. I am also a Teacher Author on the popular website, Teachers Pay Teachers.
There is no problem we can't tackle together! Let's do this!
I greatly enjoy teaching and tutoring students because I can assist them with concepts that they will use for the rest of their life. It is so important to me that my students have a great foundation to build on. If they are lacking important skills and vital knowledge within a subject, they may forever be behind in that skill, which may lead to low self-esteem and self confidence. I have taught students from high-risk communities and have helped them become more confident in their skills and abilities as a student. To me, that is invaluable!
I have always enjoyed teaching others. I first found I had a knack for teaching when I became a tutor in college for a precalculus class. I greatly enjoyed the subject and the students who relied on me for further instruction. They were better able to understand the difficult material when I introduced it a different way than their professor.
Years later I would become a trainer with different jobs, which included hospital and restaurant environments.
I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington in 2014 with my Bachelor's in Biology. I later went through an alternative teaching certification program through Dallas Independent School District in Dallas, Texas in which I taught all subjects to 3rd and 5th grade students.

I like to take a moment to get to know my new student. Ask them where they're from, their favorite hobby, things they like to do when not doing school work, etc.. After we chat for a minute, I need to find out what they don't understand about the assignment/topic. I like to understand how much they know prior to us diving deep into the material. Once I am shown the assignment or subject, I give them a few questions that are similar, yet lower level to build up their confidence. Once they can master the lower level questions, I amp it up to similar questions to their assignments. We are soon able to progress further and the student excells.
I started tutoring college students. Later when I was a teacher, I was teaching low-income at-risk students in a small community. I had students who were on the autism spectrum to "gifted and talented", all in the same classroom. It made teaching difficult but allowed me to better improve my skills of differentiating instruction for all of my students to understand the material. By the time their benchmark tests arrived, they all showed improvement.
I would suggest a student to choose a teacher that has experience in teaching many levels, that way they can better accommodate to the student's needs. A teacher that is also encouraging and clear with their instructions is vital.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
It would be great for the student to know what kind of learner they are. For example, I am a visual and writer type of learner and it helps me to see and write out what I am doing rather than just hear how to do the task.
Types of learners:
1. Visual (seeing, reading, writing)
2. Auditory (listening to instructions/tasks)
3. Kinesthetic (uses their hands, doing, touching and interacting)
