About Tyler
As a formed Chemical Engineering B.S and current Biomedical engineering PhD student, I've mentored many students and have developed a teaching style that is highly focused on individual students. I prefer to relate course/tutoring material directly to the student's interests to enable them the best possible chance of retaining the information. One key facet of my style is to focus on deep understanding of the fundamentals. In my 4+ years experience of tutoring, this facet has served my students extremely well and allows them to transition their knowledge to complex problems. I've personally tutored students in Geometry, Algebra, Calculus, and Trigonmetry as well as served twice as a Teaching Assistant for a class of 110 students. Notably, was awarded a Magoon Teaching Award for this class in 2020. Following the completion of my PhD, I hope to pursue a faculty position in academia where I will teach and conduct research at the interface between Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering.
I first started teaching in my undergraduate years in order to make money to pay off fees for school. I began by spreading the word to friends and family and eventuallyI was able to land my first student, a high-schooler in Geometry. I was able to help her bring her grade from a C- to a B+ and she was very proud of her accomplishments. From there, I broadened to Algebra and Calculus which were very fresh in my mind from having taken the course at an undergraduate level. Since then, I have transitioned to teaching courses as a Teacher's Assistant at Purdue University. Now I'm attempting again to broaden my reach by tutoring on this website.
3-4 years of personal (1 on 1) tutoring in Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and Trigonometry.
2 semesters of experience as Teaching Assistant at Purdue University in Biomedical Engineering (Fundamentals of fluid transport in Biomedical Engineering)

When working with new students, I like to take a bit of our first meeting to get a grasp on their interests. By knowing what the student enjoys, I will better be able explain how topics we're covering can be applied in outside scenarios. For example, when teaching a student interested in athletics it can be very helpful to relate mathematical/scientific principles to fundamentals of projectile motion, biomechanical forces on the body as drivers of muscle production, and gravitational forces to athletic performance.
I have worked with students of all background and genders of various academic levels (high school to undergraduate).
When looking for a teacher, two of the most important aspects are relatability and reliability. You want a teacher who is able to relate to your prior knowledge and help you see the applicability of a particularly course material. Additionally, you want someone who you can rely on to help you overcome the challenges of learning a new material.
