About Scott
Martial Arts is a great tool to help individuals learn different techniques to aid in self defense, but also helps build situational awareness and mi scup was of one's surroundings. Shotokan Karate is one of many martial arts and is a great base to start developing an individual's skill set.
I enjoy teaching martial arts and self defense to others and helping them to gain self-confidence in their ability to defend themselves. Every individual has different strengths and weaknesses. Shotokan offers each student different techniques designed to maximize their individual body types and talents.
Mr. Caldwell earned his Blackbelt in Shotokan Karate in 1993 and has been serving as an instructor since 1996. Mr. Caldwell has instructed in both Shotokan Karate and Tai Kwon Do schools as well as teaching a high school karate program from 1996-2005. Mr. Caldwell is also a military veteran with over 30 years of military service and two combat deployments. Among his awards and decorations are: the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and Combat Action Badge.

Students begin by learning the basics of Shotokan karate which include blocking, punching and kicking. These different techniques are taught using certain forms or "Katas" and also by performing "One Steps" and different floor exercises. Students typically start by practicing stationary techniques and then progress to performing the techniques while moving forward and backward. Over time students begin to advance their technique by participating in sparring sessions with the instructors or other senior students.
