About Chris
We provide Self-defense and Firearms training. Our reality based self-defense program is known world wide. C.O.B.R.A defense systems has worked with major organizations including Royal Caribbean, Verizon, Remax Reailty, as well as numerous private security and law enforcement agencies across the globe. We are not a martial arts school! We teach real-world, scenario based self-defense.

We like to start every new student with establishing our safety rules. After that, we establish the basic fundamental elements that our courses are based on. Our program gradually builds on each technique, giving students options depending on the threat level they are faced with. Our Maryland HQL course is a must have if you are looking to make your first handgun purchase. If you are looking for more specific training, we offer one on one training that is catered to your individual needs.
We have worked with students from all walks of life. From age 6 to age 60. From the marathon runner to the couch patato. Our techniques can be taught and/or modified to accomodate the individual needs of our students.
There are a lot of martial arts schools out there claiming that they teach "the best style". If that were true, do you really think there would be any other styles out there? The truth is, every style has its pros and cons. Dont get me wrong, I've spared with high level belted martial artists of verious sytles, and they can be very impressive. They have also been training at least 1 hour a day, 2-3 times a week for 10+ years to be that good. Another thing to consider is that a lot of the schools out there specialize in one, maybe two styles. If its a striking style like tae-kwon-do or Muay-Thia and you get them on the ground, they look like a fish out of water. If they teach grappling like wrestling or Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and you start throwing strikes? Well it was said once "everyone has a plan 'till they get punched in the face". If that's what you want, thats great. But that's not your only option. You need to ask yourself what it is that you want to accomplish. Are you looking for a belt or are you looking to learn how to defend yourself in a real life situation. Dont worry as much about belts, ranks, and the "name" of what it is that you are learning. At the end of the day, its you not your belt that is what gets you home to what matters to you.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Do you feel like the person is talking down to you or trying to show you "how much better than you" they are? If so, you're in the wrong place.
What is the average age of the students you see when you walk in? There is nothing wrong with young ones getting training, but I will have a very different approach with a 5 year old than i will with a 25-30 year old.
Do they "stress test" the techniques taught? A lot of martial arts have this problem. A technique or "move" might look realy cool and work perfectly when you are hitting a bag or your partner cooperates. But as soon as you hit resistance, it falls apart.
