About Jay
Not a Martial Art, this is Self Defense, not made to look pretty or flashy, teachings are designed to be quick and efficient.
Knowledge and experience comes from working security, being a Bail Bondsman, and conducting fugitive retrieval; various arts studied plus 3 years of private lessons.
De-escalation or avoidance is also a huge part; no extensive groundwork; escape with little to no harm is the objective, remember this is not a sport, staying alive is the objective.
Empowering others and making them feel safe.
In the military after having 3 (three) years of private lessons from Master Williams, I continued my journey through various discipline (mainly non-belt systems).
I am a Honorably discharged combat veteran, with over 20 years of experience, in the Arts. I have used these skills as a Bail Bondsman, Night Club Security, Fugitive Retrieval, and teaching classes while as a soldier, and to the public.

Listening to their unique situation, asking them what they want, seeing where they are, then developing and molding the training into that.
The students I have worked with are teenagers through adults.
Make sure that they are teaching realistic classes; and that they have real-life experiences outside of their dojos and competitions. Look out for the "Rambo" stories.
A recent event I was fond of was traveling out of town to a nonprofit organization and teaching a class to a female teenage group about situational awareness and self defense.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
Questions that students need to think through before talking to teachers should focus on realistic fears, what keeps them up at night, and how to get out of "bad" situations, especially before they happen.
