About Michael
I have been an educator now for 7 years plus, and I've enjoyed every moment of it. I've always enjoyed building positive and helpful relationships with my students and have always helped them in establishing goals and seeing them go above and beyond to achieve those goals. My students have learned that I'm someone that they can trust when it comes to their academics and I take pride in that fact. I'm currently a full-time teacher in the Lakota School District with a licensure in Social Studies/History, but the nature of my licensure has also allowed me to teach a course on Financial Literacy, and therefore my experience is somewhat diversified. I have always loved history, however, and teaching it is a passion of mine. I've always thought that we can learn much from the lessons of the past, and sharing those lessons with my students is not only important, but brings me great joy. I would be happy to take on any student in need of tutoring help in the evenings and on weekends. Preferably online tutoring of some sort would be best as I'm still currently teaching in my full-time position. Hope to meet you all soon!
Getting to know my students and giving them the tools to succeed, not only in school, but in life after school as well.
As mentioned above, I had my first experience teaching overseas. My college degree (Asian Studies, with a Japanese Language Certificate) set me up for a teaching job in Japan. I was able to travel over there and I taught for one year. It was an amazing experience and it awakened in me a passion for teaching that set me on the course to where I am today. When I came home I found my way into an education role as an Instructional Aide to keep me in and around the education field. All the while I was studying and working on classes to get myself certified in the state of Ohio as a teacher. Again, as mentioned I managed to find a job in the Lakota School district as a teacher of Financial Literacy which falls under the Social Studies/History umbrella. Therefore I have certification and experience with multiple subjects.
I have been in education for 7+ years. I started off as an Instructional Aide which gave me valuable tools as I worked my way to a teaching position. I didn't start off in education, however, as I graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a degree in Asian Studies, but my passion was teaching. I had come to love it so much that I traveled overseas to teach English in Japan. Once I came back, I had realized that I wanted to become a certified teacher here in the US and started out on the pathway in attaining an Alternative Licensure. I received certification in 2020 and finally landed a teaching job in 2022. I've been in or around education for so long that I don't know how to do anything else. As mentioned, I invest in my students goals and dreams as much as they do and have always been determined in helping them succeed.

Usually I like to begin with understanding what a student's goals/expectations for themselves are and then essentially take it from there. Once I have an understanding of what a student is trying to do academically, I cater my teaching/tutoring to those specific goals/needs. Students have also had issues in the past figuring out which goals they'd like to set which I have also helped with and have been trained in helping with. I feel as though this will begin a trusting relationship with any student, to let them know that I'm invested as much as they are.
Middle and High school students mostly. I have spent time with special needs students as well when I was an instructional aide. I have enjoyed working with them all.
I've often found that it is not always the student who is the most intelligent who does the best in school, but the student who works the hardest. I have always told my students that they do not have to be a genius in order to get through school and furthermore even through life, but you only have to work hard for the things that you want. You only have to put in the time. Hard work goes a long way in school and in a career sense and people notice that sort of thing. So, my advice to any student looking to hire me would be that working hard always pays off.
A recent event I am fond of, is finding out that students now have more opportunities to explore professional fields at younger ages to see if said fields are something that would interest them. Multiple professional pathways are offered through seperate programs that are sponsored in my district and it not only gives the students a different learning experience but also sets them out early on a path to work and a career.
A few things worth thinking about before reaching out
They need to understand exactly what it is that they want during their school careers. They need to ask themselves what their goals are by the end of high school and what they are really trying to get out of the experience. They need to think about what they want for their futures and what that looks like, whether that be a pursuit of higher education (university, college), or if they'd like to jump right into the work force, or if they have some other grander aspirations like playing a professional sport or getting into performance arts. Once we figure out what your goals are, we can set you out on the right path to achieving those goals.
