About Duke
I like to find out where the student is at in his/her skill level and taylor the lessons to address that as well as the style of music they want to learn. To teach a new concept I first demonstrate it, then practice together with the student, set goals for how to practice at home. At the next lesson we will review the student's understanding and progress. Based on progress new goals will be sets and new concepts introduced. My teaching style is very relaxed but I take my responsibility to teach and encourage each student very seriously.
I eat, sleep and breathe music. I play at church and with several groups locally, and at schools for special performances. I play the guitar, bass, banjo, mandolin and fiddle. I love to play and teach all types of music. I am always learning new songs myself in different styles on different instruments. Music truly is the universal language and can be enjoyed your entire life, as I have done!
I took guitar lessons when I started out but taught myself from then on. I have studied theory and many aspects of music on my own through the 45 years I've been playing and continue to study and learn myself. The beauty of music is that you never figure it all out. There's always something new to learn.

Details
I generally charge $25 for 30 minutes or $40 for an hour. For students just starting a 30 minute lesson is usually sufficient, especially for yournger students. As more skills and abilities are acquired there comes a time when an hour long lesson might be more productive.
