For a student with no experience, I'll first show them how to tune the guitar and then some basic technique. Then I'll move to the chromatic scale and some basic open position chords.
Hiring a teacher that is upbeat and enthousiastic is very important! The guitar is meant to be fun, and a good teacher must convey that to his or her students.
