About Mia

Hello!

Helping students achieve their goals is what I love doing most. I have taught for over 18 years at multiple schools, including The John Cooper School, Woodlands Prep and in the Shawnee Mission School District and I have discovered the joy of working one on one or in small group settings as an extremely rewarding way of helping to meet the needs of my students. While I have taught primarily in the middle school and lower high school settings, I have tutored students from the 3rd grade through their senior years.

I started teaching at the Dutchess Day School in upstate New York. It was there that I was hired as a long term substitute and got to experience a wide variety of subjects and grade levels.

I have a Masters in Education and a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts. I am also one year away from completing my College Counseling Certification!

About the lesson

The first thing I like to do with a new student is to understand their immediate and long term goals. Because not all students are the same, I try to accentuate their individual strengths and that helps me to formulate plans to help them attain their personal goals.

I have experience and training working with all types of students. I have studied at Neuhaus and have worked with students who are Dysgraphic and/or have Dyscalculia and I have experience and training in working with highly advanced and GT students. I have been fortunate to work with students of many levels and abilities and those with special needs, including ADD/ADHD.

You should only work with someone who values you as a person. The education process can be tailored with a strong tutor, so find someone you can trust and who can bring out the best of your abilities.

One of my favorite non-educational activities is volunteering. Recently I have started running Bingo at a local nursing home and I always come home laughing from the funny things that happen during the games.
