Hello!
Are you looking for an English tutor? Having trouble with that essay? Need someone to give constructive feedback on your poem or story? Maybe you're studying English as a second language and need somebody to help with pronunciation. You've come to the right place!
Joseph DeGraff is not your average Joe. He has been teaching English both domestically and abroad for 3 years. He has experience working with students from all over the world with a vast range of English proficiency. He's dedicated to making sure you see improvement in your language skills.

I first began teaching while I was in college, when my nephew was struggling with some of his middle school classes. From there I decided to challenge myself to live and work abroad teaching English. I enjoyed working as an English teacher so much that I continued my career when I returned to the United States.
I can sympethize with people who are full of great ideas but have difficulty expressing those ideas on paper. My goal is to help people find their voice and write better essays and more vivid fiction.
Working as an ESOL/ESL teacher has also been an incredibly rewarding experience. I can't understate how proud I am of my students when I see them improve their English and better their lives in the United States as a result.

BA in English / Creative writing from Kalamazoo College
North American Language and Culture Assistant with the Spanish Ministry of Education, Culture, and Sport
1 year teaching Adult ESOL life skills course at the Community College of Baltimore County
1 year teaching 9th and 10th grade English at the Talmudical Academy of Baltimore
1 year as a children's private English tutor in Getafe, Spain

When meeting a new student it's important to me to understand what their current level of English is. Once that is established I can focus on the specifics of what they would like help with or what particular skills they are looking to improve.
Once we have spent a bit of time together I try to figure out what learning style suits them best. From then on I plan lessons or activities tailored to them.
I have been lucky enough to work with all sorts of different people from all over the world.
I've worked with Spanish middle schoolers, high school orthodox Jewish boys, adult immigrants and refugees to name a few.
