About James
Please visit (concealed information) for more information about us. I am a full-time professional tutor with over a decade of experience and have other instructors who are also professional teachers and tutors. My teachers and I keep the lessons fun and engaging. I personally hire all of my instructors. We are a small company with an excellent track record. We have a unique curriculum that is a mix of old and new teaching methods.
We have coached students to perfect scores on the SAT and ACT. Our students have raised their scores as much as 500 points on the SAT. On the ACT, we have helped students increase their scores as much as 10 points in a single section. Our students have been accepted to every Ivy League University. We offer tutoring in many subjects including test preparation, math, English, history, foreign languages, and much more.
I enjoy the relationships we develop with families. I particularly enjoy the sense of accomplishment that I get when students achieve their academic and personal goals. There is nothing I like better than hearing that one of our students has been accepted to his or her top choice school. We work hard to help the majority of our students achieve this.
I had top scores when I took the ACT and SAT. I went through the test preparation process myself. I hold a Master of Fine Arts in writing. I was mentored by some of the best writers in Los Angeles, including Academy Award nominee Leonard Schrader. This background has given me a unique way of approaching writing and the college application essay. I share this perspective with my students and also with my instructors. I also trained with many different tutoring companies over the years before I started my own business. My instructors and I continue to develop new methods and tools to give our students.

At the first lesson, we like to meet with both the student and the parents (if possible) to discuss the test preparation process. We introduce the student to the test, take a look at results from any past tests they have taken, and together, we figure out where improvements can be made. Each student is unique, so we try to address the student's personal concerns about the test or subject he or she needs help with. Then we work from there to achieve the desired results.
Make sure that the teacher you choose not only knows the subject matter, but can also engage the student during lessons. For standardized tests, you want to find a tutor who is familiar with the exam. My instructors and I work together to find ways to keep lessons interesting for our students. Students learn far more when the instructor is engaging and helps motivate the student to do his or her best.
I am proud of all of my students and their achievements. I am especially proud when a student raises his or her grades or test scores significantly during our time together. I had a student who was failing math when I met him. He also had very low scores on the SAT. Over the course of a year, we worked together to turn this around. He improved his math grade tremendously and raised his SAT score over 400 points. He went on to attend Auburn University, one of his top choices for college. We still keep in touch.

Our daughter worked with James directly for several months prior to taking the June ACT and as a result of the lessons including one-on-one sessions and follow-up work, her score jumped 10 points! I highly recommend James and his team!!!!
My daughter began piano lessons with Take Note Lessons about 5 years ago. This year my daughter needed a tutor for 4th grade math. I figured anyone who Take Note brought us would be excellent, and I was right. The tutor, Allie, helped my daughter go from "hating" math to getting perfect score after perfect score on her weekly quizzes. She now says math is "easy". Allie is so patient, kind, energetic, and professional. She didn't give up until my daughter really, truly understood each concept, and brought many tools and ideas to help make that happen.
I started my ACT score with a 21 and with the help of James ended with a 27. I highly recommend!
Outstanding company with high quality tutoring. Did 1 on 1 test prep for SAT and SAT Subject Tests for my twin daughters - helping achieve perfect 800 on Math and 750 on Verbal. Also, worked with daughters on Math I and II, and Chemistry subject tests - perfect score achieved on Math II. Appreciated their responsiveness and flexibility to work around schedules. My daughters enjoyed their sessions and the instructors made the sessions interesting.
